There's a lot to like about the players in the top 10-12.
Heck, there's quite a bit to like about the top 35-40 guys.

He's been out of our reach since the WHL playoffs IMO, though Bingo's combined ranking is still showing he could be there...
If someone takes him, it will be a bit of heartbreak, but we will end up with someone really good if that's the case. Still hope we can take him, but Silayev, Lindstrom, Helenius, Buium, Parekh... one of those will probably be available to us if Iginla is not and will soften the blow. We will have a shot at Iginla after 6-7 years! Lol.

IMO worst possible outcome is that the draft goes:
1.Celebrini
2.Demidov
3.Levshunov
4.Buium
5.Parekh
6. Lindstrom
7. Helenius
8. Iginla
That leaves us with Dickinson, Silayev, Catton, Eiserman, and Yakemchuck to really consider. I take Silayev there. I think good chance he goes sooner and we get one of the others listed. But really, I prefer the others listed to this group.

The scouting consensus from the independent public lists *seems* to be that Celebrini, Demidov and Levshunov should be gone before the Flames pick. But aside from those three, there's a ton of variation.

Silayev over Dickenson (and Catton) would make me sad.

And honestly even Demidov has a lot of question marks with the Russia factor. Doubt he's there at 9 but wouldn't be surprised if he falls to 5 or 6.
I would have called you crazy if you told me Michkov would fall to 7 a year ago.
2-15 is going to really go in an order you can't predict IMO.

Silayev is both a super intriguing player, but also one that scares me to draft that high.
It's difficult to think of any past players comparisons to try and project how he might look in the NHL. I've never seen a player his size skate so well. He isn't just a great skater for a player his size, he is a great skater in general. He seems to have the balance of a 6'0 player while being 6'7".
But very few prospects that tall ever seem to pan out, and it's hard to get past that in my mind. Fair or not.

Very few prospects that size fail because they can't skate well enough.
Silayev wouldn't be my first choice...but a guy that size with that skating will be an absolute defensive force. And he's shown some flashes offensively...which is the question mark. Can he develop the offensive game to be a true #1 dman, instead of a defensive specialist #3

Just out of curiosity... Those of us who want to draft Iggy have posted stats and videos and rankings and reasons, etc etc etc, explaining why we want to draft him.
All I've seen from the other side is "do not want." So, for those of you who actively post about how you hope we don't draft him, what is it exactly that you don't like about him? Keep in mind that we're drafting 9th, which means that the other players available at that time will also have been passed over at least 7 times, so it's not like he'll be out of his depth if his still available then.
So what don't you like about him? What is it that makes you not want him?

For me it's 100 percent about fan expectations being wildly out of wack because his last name is Iginla. The legacy effect is too strong here.
Plus I have this sneaking suspicion that's completely unfounded that Jarome and family feels the same. Is it a cool story? In principle, yes. In practice? Probably not.
IMO, he's a top 10 talent in this draft so it's not his ability. And I fully believe he's going to be picked before the Flames have a chance to anyways.
The other reason is the Flames have depth at wing. So much depth in fact wingers are playing center. Flames need centers and D before another winger.
But what about BPA you ask? Well if you think positioning isn't a factor in BPA, then you're doing it wrong.
All things beings equal when it comes time to make the pick, the tie breaker is going to be position.
Anyways, I'm not gonna be upset if they take Jr. He's a good player. There's just a lot more to it for him and the Flames than any other player that has to be in considered.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I can understand where you're coming from.
One thing though... position is only a factor in BPA if the options are very close. Otherwise BPA as a tradeable asset is more valuable than BPA at a specific position.

Michkov fell because he was signed for a number of years with the KHL.
Demidov is signed for 1 year, and he's indicated he's trying to come over this year and getting out of that commitment. I think there is less perceived risk. And with rumours that even Michkov is coming over this year, the Russian risk seems less now I think.

I get what your saying here, and this sounds like a good pick with the late 1st or 2nd rounder.
We just sat through a season in the bottom 10, and are likely to be in a worse position going forward. If the reward for that is a 3rd pairing defensive force, I don't want.
Need something to look forward to and get excited about.

McKeen's be drinkin' that crazy juice...
Here's their mock draft from May 10th (edited on the 11th):
Quote:
#7: Ottawa Senators - RW - Tij Iginla
#9: Calgary Flames - RW - Beckett Sennecke
This is a tough pick to nail down, Calgary could go many different directions here, but I have them taking one of the most interesting prospects in the second half of the season in Oshawa Generals forward Beckett Sennecke. Sennecke who stood at just 5’ 10” just two seasons ago now stands at 6’ 3”. Through his growth spurt he has kept his strong offensive skill set and clearly is still adjusting to the change. The name of the game for him is “potential” because he hasn’t learned to use his newfound size yet and still needs to fill out to put him in a position to better utilize that size, If Sennecke’s playoffs are anything to go off of, it shows that he is just scratching the surface on what he could become, and Calgary would be a great franchise to help him harness his potential.

Beckett Sennecke is one of the biggest risers in the draft along with Iginla. There's a lot of talk that Montreal will take him at 5. I've read that Montreal's list comes down to Lindstrom, Sennecke and Iginla.
Also I've been seeing more and more mocks with Catton dropping to the 10-15 range.
