I think Rossi for Kuzmenko would be a good start.

We get that future top 6 C and Minny get a high skilled offensive winger to play with Kap, Boldy, Ek
And likely a bad end for Minny. They are looking for bigger players so they can play a more robust style. That's the opposite of Kuzmenko. They'd be better off just keeping Rossi.

It would be robbery if Conroy could trade Kuzmenko for Rossi. I think they should move on from Kuzmenko unless he would take another two year deal which probably only happens if he is having a bad year.

What about getting someone to supplement kuzmenko.

I'm wary of being quick to trade the guy that turned around 2 years of atrocious power play as well.

Value wise, sure.

Kuzmenko is twice the player.

More importantly, the team knows Kuzmenko works with the guys that are under contract for the next 5-7 years.

Kuzmenko will be 29.5 when he starts his next contract.

I personally don't think the Flames will be very good for the year leading up, and probably the three after that which takes the player to almost 33/34.

Not sure he fits in with what the team is doing.

I think if you go short term and reasonable dollars and see what he thinks ... fine.
Additionally set a trade price and see if it's met ... fine.

Erat was traded for Forsberg. Sometimes GMs have brainfarts or are desperate. Erat was 32 when traded.

Kuzmenko, in both style and production, reminds me so much of Alexei Kovalev.

From age 32-35 with Montreal, Kovalev had 65, 49, 84 and 65 points.

It doesn’t seem too outlandish to project that if he were to continue to get prime PP time with our current core + whatever kids arise to take their place.

And I cannot belabour this point enough - having a Russian star player (or more than one) in the fold long term can only help recruit additional Russians to the city.

And that country produces too many quality hockey players for Kuzmenko to be our first Russian forward since Oleg Saprykin.

After targeting Grushnikov and Miromanov in his deadline deals (and Kuzmenko), it’s fair to say This thought seems to have occurred to Conroy as well.

Kuzmenko is what is going to draw attendance at the dome, just like Gaudreau did. Unless someone overpays for him you keep him, you need a draw for this team.

Rossi would be that overpayment. it is moot though, Minnie wouldn't take it

I mean we don't really know that yet, small sample size and he was pointless in 13 of the 29 games he played with the Flames. What is the point of locking a guy who is almost 30 into a 6 year deal. Triple down a mediocre roster and bad cap construction in the top 6?

Even if Rossi is on the block, Minnesota has shown no signs of being all in to win now and likely trades him for a similar prospect to a team that wants the young player with skill. No way they trade Rossi for a guy 1 year away from UFA status.

I agree.

I love guys like nazem, but it's really hard to get excited for kadri, backlund, mangiapane etc every night. Any head-spinning move are once in a blue moon with those guys.

They're important, but their play is really meat and potatoes in terms of style. They're not out to dazzle like Kuzmenko is with how he practices high skill plays every day.

The product needs some sprinkles/garnish while we go through this painful stretch.

Relying on Zary for that is unfair of the young man who needs to focus on finding his way first and foremost.

I haven't watched a lot of Minnesota games recently. Just looking at Rossi on paper, he had a decent first full season in the NHL for a player his age. I'd definitely consider bringing him in to be part of the future. He's small, but has decent weight (listed at 5'9", 183 lbs).

If they make strong trades the top prospects and young players are what will draw attendance to the dome.

You don't keep Kuzmenko because he might be a draw.

If you get a fair deal or an overpayment for him then you should pull the trigger.

Wasn't he struggling with illness also?

Some of that is down to a new player on a new team midseason, having to earn the trust of the staff.

Then he was sick (illness).

When he came back, they figured out “give Kuzmenko the puck when he double taps his stick” and the guy had eight multi-point games to close out the season.

His even strength defense is fine. It’s not Selke worthy, but it’s completely acceptable for an offensive player.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Weegar-Sharangovich

That power play unit was as effective as the Leafs, Panthers and Oilers down the stretch.

For most of the year, the Flames were bottom-3 in the league.

The biggest thing that changed was adding Andrei Kuzmenko.

Their 1st round pick this year won’t make the team.

Their 1st round pick from last year won’t make the team.

Whenever they do arrive (it took Zary four years to crack the lineup) they won’t be ready to run a top-10 powerplay, and they certainly won’t be draws on their own.
