Great asset management. I, too, love quality.

No, that wasn’t the scenario that was proposed.
It was effectively spending depth picks, a depth prospect, and Markstrom to gain the 10th overall pick and then flipping that to gain 5th.
5th + 9th probably does more good for the building of this team than Markstrom, Pelletier, 28th, 41st, and 64th does. I also imagine that no team with those picks in the top-5/10 are evaluating those spots as a ‘toss up’.

I've been a little confused by how much Catton has been overlooked in mock drafts and on here. I can't say I've watched a lot but Sandman has (who had him 4th) and the consensus rankings have him 7th. Seems to be a bit of a no brainer.

I know what was proposed.
Would you trade 9 + 41 + Pelletier for 5?
Quality over quantity.
Your comparison of value doesn’t make sense, the 9th in the proposed scenario never changes hands.
It’s: 5 vs Markstrom (his market value), Pelletier, 28, 41, 64
If we’re saying Markstrom + 28 + 64 = 10, then it’s:
5 vs 10, Pelletier, 41
So, if that’s a no brainer, then I’m assuming we should trade 9 + Pelletier + 41 because that value has to be pretty close as well, right? At least in the “fair” range if a little less than a no brainer.

Catton is probably being overlooked because because he's on a terrible Spokane team full of overaged bums, Catton was the team in Spokane, he was 3rd in goals and 4th in points in the dub as a 17-18 year old.
I think he's the next Aho or maybe even a faster Point, the kid is skilled, poised and a gamer.

I think both are going to be incredible players and getting both might just transform this team into a powerhouse by the time the new barn opens.
Call me crazy but I would absolutely give up Markstrom, Pelletier, 28, 41 and 64 if I could get both.

I suspect if the Flames had two top 10 picks and they did not get a dman this draft they would regret it for years. Pretty weak dmen draft next year. Not sure about the year after but that means they are waiting 5-6 years to get an impact dman. Would much prefer the Flames target a forward next year. The BPA when they draft will in all likelihood be a dman.

The kid is electric, and when you can look like that on a terrible team then you know there's going to be a player. When I watched him, or look at his highlights he definitely looks like a fantastic 2 way center but highly cerebral with unbelievable offensive instinct.
Aho is probably a good comparable, he definitely looks like he can carry a line on his own and isn't a defensive liability at all. I'd honestly love him @ 9 but I feel he's going to go 3rd behind Celebrini and Levshunov.

I'm hoping for Catton or Iginla, and can't really decide which I'd prefer. If they're both already gone though it means someone else really good has dropped to us instead.
Just please don't try to be smartest in the room and pick way off the board.

Actually, you said that moving up wasn't worth it when 4-12 are considered a toss-up, implying that each of those players was worth about the same to every GM.

So would I. This teams seriously lacks high end talent. It needs to swing for the fences to get some.

I can 100% guarantee they won't pick someone way off their own board!
But keep their list. Why hold yourself to THN magazine and Bob McKenzie when making decisions?

Catton is the last forward rated in the top 10 I would take though. It's a size thing.
1. Celebrini
2. Iginla
3. Lindstrom
4. Helenius
5. Catton
Eiserman, Connelly, and Hage following but frankly I'd probably swing at Eiserman if we were based in the USA over Catton too.
IMO.
Edit: Forgot Demidov but he'd be 3 on my list! I really want tijjy.

Minnesota wants to bump up their competitive window and upgrade Rossi into someone who is currently the player that they expect Rossi will be in a couple of years. Doesn't mean they'll move him but they're looking into it.
I'm guessing they have a Kaprizov to keep happy.

Minnesota are likely trading Rossi, they find him too small for the team their building and can still fetch a nice return.
I think Rossi for Kuzmenko would be a good start.
We get that future top 6 C and Minny get a high skilled offensive winger to play with Kap, Boldy, Ek

That’d be pretty bad for the Wild
