The Flames get picks #28 (VAN's 1st) and 107 (NJD's 4th) from the Lindholm trade.




The Flames hold two picks in each of the first four rounds in the 2024 Draft: 9, 28, 41, 64*, 74, 84, 106, and 107, plus 170 in the sixth round.


* Dallas's second round pick can be anywhere from 62-65 depending on the results of the Conference Finals and the SC Final.

Did a team get a compensatory pick somewhere?

Yes. Philly gets pick #51 as compensation for not signing 2018 1st round draft pick Jay O'Brien (19th overall).

The Dallas pick is locked in to #64 FYI. The seeding changes for being conference and cup finalists only apply to the first round. Rounds 2-7 are based purely on standings and not affected by playoff results or draft lottery results.

Couple of interesting tidbits:

His agent, Daren Hermiston, said “all indications are he’ll be fine” and that both Murray and the doctor, who is an NHL team physician, will indicate in their reports that “they feel Cayden will make a full recovery without requiring surgery.”

“He can be a really hard guy to play against for other No. 1 centres (in the NHL),” Desjardins said. “A lot of the skilled forwards are not going to want to have to play against him every night. You don’t want to have to play against that guy — that’s so hard and powerful. For one, he’s physically gifted. But on top of that his standards are really high for himself.

If the medical reports are favourable as indicated and the combine goes well for him, I would think that Lindstrom goes in the top 5.

Sounds like the injury thing isn't as serious as thought? A full recovery without surgery required is encouraging... if his injury concerns are behind him by the time the draft comes around and they provide all the medical, he's definitely going top 5.

If one guy gets pushed down great, if he's taken earlier than expected great.

Calgary is pretty much guaranteed to add a great piece.

Yeah it's actually nice that the draft turned out like this when we have the 9th pick.

Great top 12, we aren't shoehorned into a player and it seems all these top guys can arguably go at any spot 3-10.

I have faith in our scouting staff. Will be an exciting draft day.

I'd take Florida's pick to move down 3 spots. Doubt that'd be on the table though.

All that said I hope we don't trade down in the 1st round. If you want to move down in a later round for additional pick(s), sure.

No, that's only true for the lottery. The bottom 4 picks are the same in every round.

The Flames strongly consider Carter Yakemchuk from their backyard with the Hitmen, as well as centers Berkly Catton and Konsta Helenius, but take Iginla, not because it’s a feel-good story but because he belongs in the range and fits with the player type they’ve targeted in the past.


28. Calgary Flames (Pick by Wheeler): Leo Sahlin Wallenius, LHD, Vaxjo

After taking Iginla with their first pick, the Flames nab the smooth-skating Swedish D with their second pick. WHL defensemen like Charlie Elick and Harrison Brunicke could also be a consideration here.


41. Calgary Flames (Pick by Wheeler): Harrison Brunicke, RHD, Kamloops

The Flames continue to build out their pool on D and add a local boy in Brunicke, whose stock rose in the second half of this season.


64. Calgary Flames (Pick by Pronman): Mikhail Yegorov, G, Omaha

Yegorov is the most purely talented goalie in the class from an athleticism standpoint and has a lot of upside. He’ll need 4-5 more years likely to develop so Calgary can see what they have in Dustin Wolf or others.
