This... Huberdeau may not get you many points (though he looked okay in 2024), but he definitely won't be the reason for a goal against every other game. Nurse is a very, very bad defenceman.

Yeah no to Darnell Nurse for Huberdeau.

I know fans around the Calgary flames hate the guy but I'd rather Huberdeau than almost any other bad contract on any other team. Plus, I've not given up on Huberdeau either. The only thing he's not doing is putting points. He's doing great everywhere else in the game and the locker room.

From February 1 to the end of the year, Huberdeau had the 7th best Powerplay GF/60 in the league - 14.19 GF/60.

It’s entirely possible he could have 90 points next season.

At the very least he’s not going a full calendar month without a point.

It's worth thinking about, since Huberdeau's deal goes a year longer, is 1.25 million more per year, and Huberdeau is 2 years older.

But I would still much prefer Gaudreau or even Dubois as alternatives.

Watched the Canada Swiss game yesterday and cozens and Mangiapane seemed to have some chemistry.

Wonder if Kevyn Adams has been watching this. Maybe have a trade fit here? Buffalo has some money coming off the books so they will have room. Not looking to get a stellar return but will hopefully open up room in top 6 for our young guys.

Murray won’t let Gaudreau near the team again even if he would want to come back. And Dubois is toxic, look how wpg did after they moved him. He’s buyout worthy.

I was on board for Nurse for Huberdeau but I thought that Nurse’s contract was way shorter for some reason. Way easier to hide a bad forward than a bad dman.

If they were both UFA right now and you could sign 1) Six years of Nurse (currently 29) or 2) Seven years of Huby (currently 30) which contract would be higher? I would pay more for what Huberdeau brings even if it runs to 37 years old.

Nurse would be a $5mm/year at most type contract.

I would take Nurse because getting him out of Edmonton and into a system and coaching staff that remotely cares about D would probably help him regain his game . Worse case he’s a Dion Phaneuf for the rest of his contract and you live with an overpaid 3rd D

I don’t see Huberdeau good enough to be one of tbe 4 best wingers on a good team anymore . So you’ll have an overpaid 3rd line winger blocking younger guys

It’s actually easier to hide an overpriced D then a overpriced winger IMO as D are harder to acquire average quality then wingers who are a dime a dozen

I don't know how any Flames fan who has watched NHL hockey over the past 11 years can look at Nurse and say yeah, I want that guy on my team.

Nurse buyout is 1.5 mil over 12 years. Hubsrseau is 1 mil over 14. I don't think theres enough advantage there to deal with the ####tiness of nurse.

Less total money left in the deal though so that might be attractive for ownership.
