We're just riding a wave of up and down air quality since Saturday evening (clearing up again now this morning):

Growing up in Northern Alberta this was not uncommon but it seems to be a more frequent occurrence in the southern regions. But I don't think i ever recall it being smoky this early in the year even when i was a kid.

Slave Lake in 2011 and Ft. Mac in 2016 were both in May.
To me it feels like northern wildfire season is in Spring and southern wildfire season is in summer. Which means smokey air season ends up being Spring and summer.

Sounds like certain neighborhoods at this time:
"The evacuation order is in effect for the neighbourhoods of Beacon Hill, Abasand, Prairie Creek, and Grayling Terrace."

It's usually the second half of May, so any day now. I'd guess after the long weekend.

Houston was slammed with a massive windstorm earlier this eve.
Winds up to 117 mph.
Huge electricity pylons have blown over, a million people without power.
Large amounts of glass downtown that has blown out of the skyscrapers.

It's snowing in the NW this morning which is an indicator that it's the long weekend. The long term forecast is pretty bleak. Looks like this is going to be one of the colder Mays on record. At least the people that want rain will be happy.

Was down in the south during the day today, surprisingly warm in the sun. Then came some massive clouds North and West. Started home around 2pm, through some torrential rain, then to a layer of hail ice on the lawn at home.

Was camping in Waterton over the weekend. Snow/rain/sleet...doesn't matter as we're there to party. What a fun time. The snow this morning was crazy, though. Snowflakes were the size of fricken snowballs. Never felt cozier in my trailer.
