I would be very very surprised if he's on the team in the Fall:
1)Most importantly he's a year away from FA, so he can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
2) I think he's been fed up with the organization for a while now and how they've had a carousel of goaltenders and coaches and a lot of promises made behind the scenes about change, when things don't and it's dysfunctional. He's a smart guy and he knows a rotten egg when he sees it and this is his earliest chace to get out and go to an organization that does things the right way on and off the ice. He's also worn out his welcome with fans and press, and he really could not care less then he currently does about that aspect.
3)Oilers desperately need to cap space for a last ditch effort to prevent McDavid from leaving, which is also a foregone conclusion...so, they begin the process of pushing Leon out the door...
4)As soon as the Oilers lose, the franchise and it's fans always need a scape goat. It's been goalies and coaches and GM the last 2 decades, but I think this time with the writing on the wall, the press will go after Driasital post series, and as the lress is directed for years by the top of the Oilers organization to direct and push the narrative, so to say they'll go after him as they did Smith (to retire) it's foreshadowing for his release, it would be an understatement. Press don't like him so that will make it easier. And he takes a big chunk of cap space, and is prone to injury, all of which will be spotlighted by said press.

When I opened TuneIn to listen to the delicious CHUD postgame, it immediately played an Amazon ad that begins with the sound of a baby crying. I just figured it was one of the Oilers in a postgame scrum.

The notion of going back to Skinner is completely insane. It should result in being immediately fired.
Skinner in this series has allowed about 7 goals above expected. That is atrocious.
Pickard let in 3 GA on 3.86 xGA tonight and let in 2 on 1.68 last game. So he's performed slightly better than expected.
Incidentally, Silovs has allowed 16 goals on 16.03 xGA. So he's basically dead on for expected goals - obviously great for an AHL call up third stringer to play like an average NHL goalie but it's not like he's stolen the series to this point or anything. If they had Demko, who averaged over .5 goals saved above expected this year per game, it's very likely the series would already be over.

I think you guys give the Oilers management/ownership way too much credit.
I don't see a single scenario they move Draisaitl this off season. He has been more effective than McDavid these playoffs and without him they throw away their final year of winning a cup in the McDrai era.
They will lose both for nothing in hopes of a miracle their offense can outscore their horrific goaltending and defence and go back to being a bottom feeder for the better part of a decade and E will remain NG forever

Probably.
But at the same time, when was the last time Pickard played in 4 NHL games in a row, and started 3 in a row? He is due to turn back into a pumpkin any minute. Pickard is a 32 year old, mostly career minor leaguer who up until this season only had like a dozen or so NHL games over the past 3 seasons before. Even in the AHL, he was mostly a platoon guy or 1B in recent years.
I would probably go with Pickard as well, but I can see why it's not a given.

Possibly the last year and almost certainly the 2nd last year of the McDrai window and they are choosing between Pickard or Skinner for an elimination game!

Just brings in the other interesting half of this question, does their GM want to bail as well? Kinda seems like it with him being non-committal about an extension and rumours of other teams being interested.
They really don't seem to have a direction past 'sure hopes this works out right now'

Guys and girls. The Oilers get knocked out, and don't have their 1st round pick! How glorious, finish them off Nucks.

If they do trade Draisaitl it would be smart, so I doubt they will. He’s not getting any better than this and will be 30 when the next contract kicks in. Hopefully they break the bank on an extension.

Pickard was the Oilers best player last night. Where has this Canucks team been all playoffs? Totally dominated the last two periods and the timing couldn't be better as they were going to lose this series in six games playing the way they have the prior games. They will need to keep the tempo up 5 on 5 and stay out of the box to finish the Oilers off this weekend.

If Vancouver wins this series, the Flames get a better conditional pick, right?

Yes, the 4th they got for Lindholm gets upgraded to a 3rd.
