Just sent my Canucks buddy and my Oilers buddy a group text. Said “This is like choosing between herpes and vd - I guess I choose vd. “ Which is obviously the Canucks.

McDavid is the master at manipulating for penalties.

Rule 42 requires “distance being travelled” to be called charging.

No question that’s a bad call.

… and that’s a dive.

Oilers expose the refs as buffoons.

It's a shame they are buffoons and can not realize it.

Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. This includes skating or leaving one's feet (jumping) into the opponent to deliver a check, accelerating through a check for the purpose of punishing the opponent, or skating a great distance for the purpose of delivering a check with excessive force. The onus is on the player delivering the check to avoid placing a vulnerable or defenseless opponent in danger of potential injury.
It's right there in black and white. "Takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate". Jumping straight up neither "travels an excessive distance", nor does it entail taking "more than two strides". Word for word, this call was a gross misinterpretation of the rule.

Oilers are 0-5 on the McPP so far in this game. Feels like they might finally score here. You can only hold them off for so long.

The NHL needs to introduce a rule that allows a referee to call a penalty for diving, even if there is no other infraction on the play.

I have to wonder what the referees are watching. There were like 3 penalties in that short sequence of greasers pp.

The NHL must really believe that the average fan is completely stupid. There's no way they don't have an agenda with McDiver and his fellow babies.

They can do that now. They choose not to.
