Taking a while to get to 5000

It is kind of funny, the path we seem to be going down. The NHL is cramming McDavid down our collective throats, certainly more so up here with Sportsnet and to a lesser degree TSN. But in doing so they're creating a magnifying glass. McDavid fatigue is real and now with this officiating imbalance becoming more visible and being called out its shedding a negative light on both the player and the league.

If the Oilers go overboard tonight trying to play physical, that will absolutely get them off their game and play right into the Canucks’ hands. Hard hitting physicality is not the Oilers’ style at all. They’re a run and gun finesse team who thrives on playing loosey goosey pond hockey with lots of McPPs.

Losing in 5 games sends more of a message. I don't want the Oilers looking like they fought a hard fought series, which they haven't. I'd like the win to be as quick and as embarrassing as possible for the Oilers. Back to back blow outs would be ideal.
I'll be happy knowing that fans across Edmonton are burning their jerseys in their nightly backyard barrel/trash fires and punching each other along Whyte Avenue.

It is also shining a light on the type of personality (or lack there of) McDavid is. The entitlement is over the top. Every other star had to fight through a lot more that what McDavid has.
The worst of it is that city and organization has painted themselves into a corner because they have wasted almost 10 years of his career and have doubled down.
I hope that the act is starting to wear on the refs and they stop giving him the leeway they have. I also don't think the NHL likes being put on the spot, but the McDavid angle won't matter as much to them if the Rangers make the finals. At this point they are probably just counting the days until they can have a marketable super star.

Just more and more ammunition for the Canucks to rally around.
Real kyper show saying the suspension is entirely to quiet the "noise" more than anything else (not even the safety aspect). Which basically means placating the oilers and their contingent of Karens because they're the only ones who were making a racket about it. Since when did this league get reduced to keeping those welfare profiteers happy?
Pathetic.

Is anybody in sports media calling out this double standard? The broadcast team in the U.S. feed during last night's game between Dallas and Colorado made a sarcastic comment about it but I haven't seen much else. As long as it is just fans of other teams and not the media, this BS will continue. This is the story that Duhatschek should write about.

I don't think I ever remember someone speaking out against the NHL like this. Unfortunately, knowing the NHL, this will end up hurting the Canucks more than helping though.

Oilers were their own worst enemy here. Nothing will be better then watching their two players walk away in consecutive years. If they bow out of the the playoffs this year in this fashion, you have to think that both of the players will be circling their future ufa days. McDavid will probably bail to the 3v3 league so he will never has to play defense again.

Splitting up the power play twins and Pickard getting the start. Hopefully the Canucks use the suspension as inspiration and continue their underdog "us against the NHL" mentality.

I don't have the talent for it but would love to see someone make a video of all the "missed" calls on the Oilers this series and get it out there.

Love to hear him speak candidly, but I tend to agree with you. When those grey area plays happen and Zadorov is involved, it makes you wonder which way they are going to go moving forward. As a Canucks fan, I wish they'd keep that stuff internal until the entire thing is over.

Surprised Zadorov hasn't been suspended for those statements.

Fans from around the league have questioned the decision-making of George Parros and his team, especially this postseason. While dangerous slew-foots, spears, cross-checks and punches to the head have gone unpunished, the second an incident happens with McDavid, it results in multiple players hearing from the disciplinary committee. The inconsistency of NHL Player Safety's ruling is apparent and deserves to be called out by the fans and players.
|
This is gaining wider traction - but of course Pravda Sportsnet won’t have anything to say on it.

I dunno, they might bring it up on the panel, in which case I fully expect Ron MacLean to scoff and act like even suggesting that there's any comparison between the two cross checks is obviously ludicrous and conclude that the league clearly got it right here.
Unrelated, but apparently Knoblauch is splitting up McDavid and Draisaitl to try to get someone else going besides one line. Obviously take the under on how long that lasts for but actually it seems like a poor strategy when one of the defensemen who has been primarily employed to defend that line at 5v5 is suspended for a game - wouldn't you want to keep that line loaded up to see if in Soucy's absence, they can just cave in a compromised pairing?
