Cory Schneider got 9th OA. He was a lot younger than Markstrom though.

That's the angle I would go for, markstom and rasmus for 10th overall, roster player to make salary work and a meh prospect.

It's pretty unusual for a team in a 10A to be looking for a goalie in a trade, TBF.
But the Devils are a team who may think this was an outlier year and pretty much all down to goaltending.

Markstrom is not getting 10th OA. If jersey gave that pick for a goalie it would be for none other than Saros, or Askarov.
If they gave up a 1st for Markstrom they would be banking on their 2025 pick being much higher in ranking with Markstrom as their goalie.

The Flames would have to add the Vancouver pick, at least.
The top 14 of this draft appears to be quite strong, so it's going to take a lot to grab one of those picks.
Someone mentioned St Louis is willing to move down in the draft from 16, and that makes sense to me. From 16 on, the draft seems to be more of a crapshoot.

I don't think you are getting Saros for #10, keep adding. On the other hand if they offered #10 for Askarov the Preds should take that and run. The league is full of supposed high touted young goalies that don't pan out. Like Samsonov.

No no no, trade Markstrom for 2025 or 2026 1st than this year's one. Mangiapane too. Get next year's draft than this year's.

No, Markstrom won't return the 10OA.
But no one proposed that. The proposals are all for Markstrom + VAN 1st.
Still unlikely (all trades are), but at least it's reasonable to discuss.

Multiple people proposed that his value was this pick + just 3 months ago.
I think most thought that was untrue then, but why laugh at it now when you were one who defended that value then?

The pick wasn't 10th overall at that time, and most likely would have been protected.
The Devils would have hoped t get on a roll and make the playoffs after trading for Markstrom, then the pick would be late teens at the earliest.

We should probably let that whole Markstrom to the Devils dream die for now. What it might have been, that's not happening. Not anymore. IMO.

Is there substantial difference between pick 16 and pick 10 in this draft?
I don't really think there is... maybe I guess if there's a dropper at 10, but equally a guy like Yakemchuck might still be available at 16 depending on preference.

So after burning the #11 pick to draft Askerov, putting in the time and effort to get him to the level he is at now they should consider getting the #10 overall pick a "take the money and run" scenario?
No, they're not going to do that. If the Devils want Askerov they'll have to pony up more then #10OA.

I have a good source that says Markstrom could very well go to the Devils. It's just not going to be for the 10th pick. It might include a first rounder for next year that's probably protected.

Yeah. We'll see I suppose.
We all saw last year how easy it was to get 1st round picks with talent like Hanifin who was expected to move then.
Stronger draft then, perhaps, but it seems a lot tougher than its been in years past to move up or trade into the top 10 or so.

Drafting a forward with our pick and improving the Vancouver pick to also grab Yakemchuk would be pretty nice.
Though I'd think if that doesn't pan out, picking Hutson, Lavoie, Jiricek or Elick with the Vancouver pick would be fine too.
All depends what the move up costs.
