On the bright side, the Jays will have a new manager on Friday

It's crazy how often Bo hits into a double play.

What's really selling how bad this team is listening to Dan and Joe on the call. They're at a loss for words. We're all fans and can be as emotional as we want. But once the professionals call it quits. You know something is up.

Remember when the media roasted Vladdy for doing a homerun celebration in an 8-2 loss? Well how about Schwarber stretching a single into a double in a 10-1 game? Probably nothing. Baseball media is so fickle.

The team needs to eject John Schneider from their staff now.

Yep. Without $250 million in payroll.
A 60-100 team with youngsters and no payroll is better than watching a 70-90 team spending to the luxury tax with no future.

The worst part of all this is that Roger's is going to be super skittish on allowing payroll spending when this fails and we come out of another rebuild.

These things can happen.
Padres had a $280 million payroll last year and won 82 games
Mets had $360 million payroll and won 75 games
It sucks but at least the only really bad contract the Jays have is Springer's
Thank goodness Atkins never locked in Bo/Vlad to monster 13 year type contracts
With some shrewd moves and a little luck, it's possible to turn this around quickly
I stress the word possible there

There's always a chance things go sideways, but this was definitely foreseen in the case of the Jays. I'm not a genius by any stretch but they brought in a bunch of guys who had mediocre track records for hitting production. Or guys who are on the downside of their career. So some of this will be pleasant surprises like Turner (though not a total surprise as he has a decent track record), but the vast majority of their guys had limited upside and sketchy records. So while I personally didn't see them being this bad game after game, it was foreseeable, and almost predictable. Again, this is a two pronged leadership problem that immediately needs to be expunged. Atkins and Schneider. One built the roster based on a stupid defence first, at the expense of offence, philosophy. The other hasn't maximized the value of his guys or lit any type of fire under them. Of course the hitting coach goes too. I also think they have to trade Vlad at least. Shapiro only gets a pass for perhaps two years because his focus was the business of the renovations. Anyway, enough excuses. The team was poorly assembled and that's on two faced Atkins.

The frustrating thing is if the Jays go 76-50 they make the playoffs easily with 92 wins. So a ~.600 win percentage for the rest of the season.. John Schneider had a .622 after he took over from Montoyo. So who knows. A new voice, new coach, new approach, they still have a shot at salvaging something. Or maybe not. But this silence is ridiculous. Someone say or do something!

Schneider first with the callout of the team last week, and then the half assed delayed argument with the ump, more for show than substance, ala the Gluegun stick toss. He’s definitely feeling the footsteps and when he gets the boot, Atkins will toss him so far under the bus he’ll be able to to fix the muffler.
With Buck away the last few series, maybe he’s preparing to come back to the team for a redux as manager, ala Gibby.

I still naively thought they had the roster to compete for a wildcard but not go all the way. The pitching, both starting and rotation looked to be very strong, same with the defence. On offense I thought it would be tough but expected the top 3 to have average seasons for the them allowing them to grind out wins.
Whelp, on offensive it’s fine worse than I could have ever imagined. Especially since I didn’t see what was about to happen to Bo. The top three are not even deserving of playing time and there’s no light at the end of the table.
And now the pitching has collapsed. The back end has struggled all year and I suspect the pressure now in the starters knowing they won’t get runs and the bullpen will blow it for them has tightened them up.
Atkinson is fully responsible for this mess and should be held accountable and it should be done now.

Until Atkins is gone and the organization changes how they operate and treat their players I don't think anything is going to turn around. This is more about a dysfunctional organization then it is about players or a manager.
As long as Atkins, and perhaps to a certain extent Shaprio, are in charge I have no expectation this is going to get better. It's been obvious for 2 years now but Jays chose to ignore it and here we are. I wish I could be surprised but there's really no reason to be. The whole Berrios wildcard thing solidified it for me.

I'm really curious what the Jays will do, if they continue to fall further and further behind
Will they make a manager change? Will they make a trade.....
It terms of the Jays performance, like others have said.
I'm not surprised at all, its still early and I think they are .500 team

I place the blame in two areas:
- Team leadership: Atkins, Schneider and Shapiro. They are ultimately accountable for the team.
- The team's best position players: Vlad and Bo.
I don't know what you do about it, but basically they bet on those guys, and then tried to supplement around them. The pitching staff has generally been strong, and most of the acquisitions in that area have been pretty darn good. And I don't blame the downfall on something like the Varsho trade (though i agree it's not great). If the team was winning he would be looked at as an excellent complementary piece.
Bottom line is the two core young pieces haven't delivered. I'm over Vlad. I don't think he takes the game seriously at all.

If the Jays are going to suck best thing for them is to suck hard , so they clean house and start the rebuild sooner then later while they have a lot of pieces with value

Team meeting. That will fix everything.
Even if the team starts hitting Schneider has to go. He is just a terrible manager.
