If this were a normal year I think we'd pick Helenius but given the documented variation, I think in the chaos we'll get someone ranked higher in the consensus lists that we didn't expect to be there.

It isn't surprising to me. A guy with that size and the skill set he has is not very common.

I just wanna have a little bit of fun tomorrow and hope the Flames win the Lottery. Get them one of those 1st line centers ppl keep talking about. And the clear 1st overall pick in the draft.

Seattle is going to win the lottery, then annoying people (including me) will complain about the Flames winning the last game.

Wonder if the flames could move up from the Canucks pick to the leafs. Let them have one of the seconds since they’re short on picks. Especially if Hage is somehow still there, I’d potentially even give up the higher 2nd. Otherwise Ritchie or hutson would be awesome too

Public negativity is a two-way street... if they take Tij and he busts or ends up as just an average middle-six winger and some guy in that range becomes a star then the public negativity just shifts to the Flames making a nepotism pick.
The Flames should just pick the best player available... if that's Tij then that's fine and if it isn't Tij then that's fine too.

Who says no?
Flames win first run with celebrini.
If flames win second would any of these be interesting.
Montreal wants a forward.
2 for five and a second plus return of monahan pick?
Utah may be ready to move ahead and make a quality for quantity deal.
Second for sixth plus three second rounders including 38.
Ottawa could look at a quality for quantity trade as well.
Two for seven 26 and 39.
Would any teams bite on this?
Would we?

Nope.
If you so happen to win the lottery take the franchise player.

I would do all of those for 2nd OA. But, I suspect that the mushy 2-12 range decreases the objective value of pick 2 well below what you've laid out here.

Certainly but utah and ottawa have been collecting draft picks for a while. Also. Everyone has a favourite.

If the Flames pick 2nd, you run to the draft stage and select Demidov.
Why trade for all these Russian players if you are unwilling to draft one of his calibre?

I'd take Buium 2nd.
But, I think the trades proposed offer enough value, as I personally don't see a huge gap in the 2-12 range. I have said it before but I'd be willing to take Tij second and do think he's the 2nd best forward available in the draft. He'd probably make it to 5-6 as well, so the trades make a lot of sense to me.

That is why I think trading down in the top part of the draft is rare. Teams won't trade down in drafts where it would be worth trading up and in drafts like these there isn't enough value to entice a team to trade down.

No. I don't think so. If we win the 2nd lotto then we should just draft 2nd. No need to get cute with it... just take the best player not named Celebrini and count yourself lucky.

The interesting part is you make your list before you follow it. So what order do you put those two on the list, should they be back to back in this hypothetical.

If we had the #2 pick, I'd trade it to San Jose for the #3 and #14. It's probably pretty unlikely that they wouldn't though, unless they were really obsessed with one of Demidov or Levshunov.

I don't know enough about these prospects outside of what I read.
Just don't want Lindstrom(injuries starting to pile up), and the jumbo Russian because he has zero offence.

2OA would be the highest pick in Franchise history
Flames fans: "Flames never get top 3 picks"
Also Flames fans: " Trade the 2OA and drop back if we get it"
