Iginla is right near the spot we’re picking. Looking at Bob’s list, you’d be happy with anyone from 7-12. People really don’t want us to take the 10th ranked prospect with the 9th pick? Come on now. That’s even sillier than wanting to take him because he’s an Iginla.

Well I was high on a Gabe Perreault last year and I might be even higher on him now.
Sometimes the inflation is earned/warranted.
Can only speak for myself, others will fall in love with their player, but I won't be disappointed with like 8 of the 10 guys from this top tier.

You've been pissing on Iginla being a Flame every time his name comes up.
We get it, you dont think hes going to be as good as some others do, you want someone else.
Some of us believe he is going to be a very impactful player. Not just because of his last name as you keep trotting out but because of the way he plays hockey. He has a complete game.
I believe who ever is lucky enough to draft him is going to be very happy.

He's got 50 points in 57 playoff games. But fans will always look for a scape goat and run them out of town, deservedly or not, because frankly fans are most fueled by emotions and come to very stupid conclusions because of that.
But mostly I just found it hilarious that you were worried we'd draft Catton and he'd become Marner. Worried lol.
We should be so lucky. Given our track record whoever we draft might become another Bennett.

Bob polls 10 scouts.
Each team probably has ten scouts each.
Assuming he is just talking to NHL team scouts and not those with central scouting. There is roughly 350 scouts out there and is consensus list is from 2.5% of those with an opinion.

Oh, I see. I assumed he used a larger sample size.

Fan perception of players and how they treat them is a really poor way to evaluate them.

You take the risk and draft Demidov imo.

You don’t trade out of top-2 selections in the NHL.

At no point did I even say he becomes marner… but alright. Marner like as in how he’s been putting up big numbers but then faded

I thought Bob used a larger sample size?
Anyways if it's just 10 that's what it is, and makes him look better.

Thats fair, and I dont claim to know everything like some people here. Just giving an opinion about a guy's question marks. Catton could very well be a Brayden point core piece of a team. Just bringing up a discussion point about different styles of these top guys

but it speaks to expectations.
If you draft a Mitch Marner player at 9 - it is an absolute home run.

While true, in most years this method has produced a draft list that's been about 90% accurate through the first two rounds which is pretty remarkable. Central Scouting is not near that, for example.

Yeah, he's not just poling from a random 10 of 350ish scouts. He's surveying 10 senior scouts every year who have their finger on both their lists as well as information on what they think other teams are looking for... he wouldn't be as accurate as he is if he were just pulling from a bunch of regional guys who don't have the bigger picture.

Show me where I have been pissing on Iginla? Not once have I done that, I have just called out posters who are overhyping the player because of whom his father is, like yourself. Don't feed me a line of bs about his name not influencing your bias toward the player, if his name was Tij Smith we wouldn't be having this conversation. I pushed back against people who think he is better than he is and I have consistently had him ranked around 10. Guess where other draft guys like Bob Mac and others have him? Are you claiming to know more than pro scouts or draft gurus? The Flames should take the BPA whether that is Iginla or not. My concern is the Flames draft him and he doesn't become a franchise player and then posters like yourself will piss on him because he didn't live up to your unrealistic expectations.

If we pick #2 the answer is unequivocally yes.

So sanctimonious and disingenuous, as always.
Literally any time someone posts something new about Tij you're in here trying to throw cold water over it within 5 posts.
I'm a good example, I started the season low on Tij and could care, but as it went on he climbed up my rankings quick. Literally has nothing to do with his name; he was a top performing player on a good WHL team and showed notable growth over the season. He's one of the youngest players in this draft. He scores big goals and plays in tough situations consistently. He is scrappy and wins puck battles far more often than he loses. He's hard to get off the puck. And he has a great shot.
There are people in this thread who are blind to his actual qualities because of the name plate he has on. IMO far more who are blindly against than are blindly for.
