In the comments on Wheeler’s most recent Athletic article someone asked him about Iginla. He said:

Quote:
From my notes: "Hands in tight to his body on little curls into his feet, or even catching pucks into his feet and onto his stick in one motion at speed, were repeatedly noticeable. Can attack from the outside, take pucks in, play on feel and touch from the perimeter or drive and strength/skating. Looked like he constantly had a step on opposing D with his skating. Can win pucks when he applies himself. Not dominant but his skill showed up in some big moments and he looked the part of a top player/prospect behind the McKenna/Martone duo offensively. Impactful on PP."

who in the top 12 played at the U18? Iggy, Huselius and Eiserman. Anyone else? Based on this tournament, at best, you might say Iggy is better than those two.

Iginla at 10 so still in range for the Flames to get him.

It would be a misnomer to say there’s no consensus to be found in these rankings.

Demidov, for example, had nine scouts place him firmly amongst the top five prospects in the draft; Silayev, Levshunov and Lindstrom each had eight votes in the top five.

But as you drill down on the numbers, there appears to be a wider divergence of opinion than we usually see within the top five, and the bandwidth between Nos. 6 to 15 appears to be a lot tighter than we’ve seen before.

To wit: Five scouts had Demidov as the No. 2 prospect behind Celebrini but five others — three for Levshunov and two for Silayev — saw it differently.

Six prospects got votes at No. 3 — Silayev (three); Demidov and Lidstrom (two each) and one apiece for Levshunov, Parekh and Helenius.

There were eight — eight! — prospects who got votes in the No. 4 slot — two each for Silayev and Lindstrom and one apiece for Demidov, Levshunov, Parekh, Dickinson, Buium and Yakemchuk.

And seven prospects garnered No. 5 votes — Levshunov (three); Lindstrom (two) and one apiece for Demidov, Dickinson, Sennecke and Yakemchuk.

It was like that all the way through the rest of the top 10 slots — six prospects split the No. 6 votes; seven prospects divvied up the the No. 7 votes; six prospects at No. 8; seven at No. 9; and eight at No. 10.

I listened to the podcast (which was before the semis) and the general view was that he had an uneven tournament up to that point. The big question seems to be is if he is a play driver himself, or someone that will need to rely on others. And that people still aren't sure about it.

My takeaway from the tourney is that stocking up on 2025 and 2026 picks may be preferrable than trying to get another 2024 pick. There was a lot of impressive performance by the underagers

Well that was an interesting way of proving he is right.

If we don't get 1 of Buium, Dicknson, or Parek, I want Tiggy. He has superstar written all over him, and looks to be a big game player.

He also has the chemistry with our 1st overall pick in 2026 as well which doesn't hurt.

I wish we had Vancouvers 2025 pick instead of this year. I think Vancouver is kind of careful as well knowing they may come crashing down next season.

That's a really interesting top 15.

Senneke is the surprise for me. I knew he wouldn't be down at the Vancouver pick but I definitely had him somewhere in the 17-23 range.

I like what's at 9. And it's like the 1st time in forever my pick is what Bob has at the Flames pick.

Even the grail list maker Bobby Mac says this draft is gonna be wild and unpredictable, you better buckle up Buckeroos.

Start by getting the 2025 back from Montreal.

Is helenius that much better of a player that you’d pass on Iginla for him? Even if he is (slightly), I don’t think that’s worth the public negativity that will happen if he’s taken and Tij is still on the board

Helenius is more of a Playmaking/driving 200' Center. Iginla is definitely the better goal scorer but is a winger. Depends what a team is prioritizing and how they project they will perform in the NHL.

Helenius probably projects as a high end 2nd line center, Maybe a point per game top line center if he hits his ceiling.. Tij probably a top 6 winger, is he an elite top line goal scoring winger? Maybe, the scouts get to earn their money in drafts like this.

The 2025 pick would have been protected anyway.

Lindstrom seems like an interesting one. With the lack of consensus from 2-10 you'd think he'd slide given his recent injury history and other available options. Curious to see where he'll end up.

I think you have to follow your list and not deviate from it.

It’s one tournament, vs. Hundreds of other games.

Not sure why he isn’t higher, but I am certainly not an expert. The scouts know more than we do.
