Sometimes this really long break can work against teams. I think of the 2019 playoffs where the Islanders won in 4 vs Pittsburgh, long break than lost in 4 to a Carolina team coming off a 7 game series. Than lost in 4 to the Bruins in the next series. After this round having rest and breaks does help as two or three rounds of playoff hockey does take a toll. But a week off this early at times has been tricky for teams to pick up where they were. In this case both teams are off for awhile so it's not like one is still in that routine of game every second day.

Does anyone have a summary of the Calgary picks still in play this playoffs?
Vancouver
Dallas
Las Vegas?

It helps the team that's more banged up and that's the Canucks, even if it's just about getting Demko back in game 6 instead of 7, or 7 instead of not at all.
Of course that would require making it to game 6 or 7 and honestly I'm not sure that's going to happen. It really depends if the Oilers face any adversity - if that pressure starts building it'll snowball and we've seen how poorly this Oilers core handles that sort of thing. If the Canucks win the first two at home that'll start creeping in. The Canucks are basically playing with house money, it's already a successful season for a group that wasn't supposed to get to the final 8 (and likely won't again for a few years, with that EP40 raise and 5M of OEL buyout on their books).

Last 2 conditions that we have are:
getting a 2026 3rd if Dallas makes the finals
4th (107) upgraded to 3rd (94) in 2024 if Vancouver makes the conference finals.
With all the division winners making it to the next round, it is probably more likely that if the Canucks lose to the Oilers the pick will be 27 or 28. 29 if they beat the Oilers.

Probably won't be up to them, if round 1 was any indication.

I don’t get the nhl schedule at all. Bruins play basically every other day, oilers play 2 games less and get a week off?
I’m not saying it’s biased, perhaps it is, perhaps it isn’t, but having half of the series completing their second game before this series starts seems odd. Even Dallas have their first game ahead of oilers v Canucks.

No idea or at least i dont remember who the sportsbooks installed at the beginning of this year and it could have been the greasers, but since that time its the bettors that have decided who they think will win....not some deep thinking/analytical/nonbiased source.
All that aside, and after watching that Nucks/Preds series, i see no possible way Vancouver beats the Oilers.
THat was some horrendous hockey that will only work against offensively limited teams. Edmonton is not that.
Oilers in 5.

No kidding, and have you seen Oilers/Elks 50/50 draws? The People of Edmonton have a serious gambling problem.

American Airlines Center is only available Tuesday and Thursday. Rogers Arena not available tonight.
So it's either Stars/Avs Tuesday & Canucks/Oilers Wednesday, or Canucks/Oilers Tuesday and Stars/Avs Thursday.
Then there's the Mavs schedule and the seven monster truck rallies in Edmonton to coordinate around.

That's the one that stuck out to me. Dallas gets a day off, Edmonton will have a week off.
Remember when the Stanley cup was awarded in early June? If this series goes to 7, the next series will start around the 22nd or 23rd of May. That's usually when the Stanley Cup finals start. The NHL needs to find a way to wrap up the playoffs in early June again. Nobody wants to watch hockey in July.

A week off is the prize the Oilers get for Kurashev shooting the puck over the glass with a minute to go in the last game of the year. You can't take that away from them.

Good for Tocchet. He seems like the type who would have the balls to call it like he sees it during this series.

I read that the NHL met with both the Oilers and Canucks and warned both about embellishment and diving.

Pissy probably had his hoodie up and his airpods in when that memo came through.
Those two teams definitely need warnings though lol. They're both notorious for selling for calls. Just look at Dicksaddle in game 5, that one game-changing flop took talent.

Good. I wonder what the warning would be. Would it be as I said… “if you dive, the refs will stop calling anything for your team.” Or would it just be… “don’t do it.” There has to be real consequences for diving - not just playing 4-on-4 - that’s not a punishment. And a $5,000 fine is lot enough of a punishment either.
I would really love for extreme suspensions and fines to players for embellishment. I think embellishment has a detrimental effect on the game and it has been gaining momentum for years. We have seen what it did to soccer and what it is doing to Basketball. Those sports have done very little to stop it and I find them virtually unwatchable because of it. I worry the same is going to happen to hockey.
My suggestions: Make it so diving negates the original penalty or makes it so your team gets an extra penalty - turns it into a 4-on-3 penalty kill for the team with the diving infraction. Every embellishment penalty gets reviewed by the league after the game… if it is confirmed as a blatant embellishment then the player is suspended a minimum of 3 games for a first offence. 2nd offence is 5 games. 3rd offence is 10 games. I know lots of people will say this is too extreme, but diving/embellishment is the thing I hate most in today’s game. It’s embarrassing for the sport and I want to see it gone. This is how you get rid of it.
