I hope city council decides to intentionally negotiate directly with the federal government for affordable housing funding. Then when an agreement is reached, and the UCP lose their kyit / begins their inevitable virtue signaling to kybosh it, council goes before the media and states that the UCP is directly and solely responsible for preventing the funding and immediate construction of critically needed housing for Calgarians.
Edmonton and Calgary need to roll up their sleeves and start publicly slugging the UCP's curveballs right back at them.

Isn’t that what the city is doing? Trying to pass incredibly unpopular rules to get federal funding? The only result is a clean slate in the city next election..

Take this with a grain of salt as this account sometimes hits the hyperbolic but I think introducing something like this would cause a massive uproar with the masses.
This, IMO, would wake up a lot of people to this government.
I honestly don’t know if they would have the balls to do something like this but surely with a TBA backed agenda maybe they would??

We just saw this government follow David Parker's demands to get rid of voting machines. If David Parker wants abortions banned in Alberta, abortions will be banned in Alberta. That's just how it works now.

They'll table it. Receive tremendous backlash. Then quietly repeal. They did it for low income transit support, they'll do the same for abortion.
It's them "LiStEnInG tO ThE pEopLE!"

There is no low they wont sink to. Why do people continue to doubt how ****** they are?
Reminds me of the 'well trump will moderate himself if elected, will act more presidential'

Hey conservatives lurking this thread - speak up. Let's hear your thoughts on the this.
Or should I be asking this in the federal thread, even though it's the wrong topic?

You’re really expecting a UCP voter to defend their vote?

Only after the Liberal voters defend their vote.
I think all the politics threads in Canada should be under one. Either it will be quiet due to no one wanting to defend their vote. Or it will just get too unwieldy and get shut down due to moderation issues lol

Yeah. I'd like to know what a conservative thinks about this. After all, many of them cast their vote for this party less than a year ago.

I think only one person voted for the Alberta Liberal Party. Not sure if they’re on CP though to defend it.
Assuming you mean at a Federal level though, despite how badly you think people should regard the LPC, consider how much worse people have to think of the CPC to not be a viable voting option to them.

But if we didn’t have the split, we couldn’t have people saying “Ummm, this is the ____ thread” to avoid having an opinion on a topic they can’t easily defend, and then where would we be?

It's noble. The UCP would give up their political future in order to ensure unborn children get theirs. You don"t see that sort of high minded sacrifice in politics much any more.
The NDP and Liberals at all levels of government could really learn from this example.

We should all have autonomy over our bodies, have access to the medical procedures and treatments we need and be able to affirm or deny healthcare that is being offered.
If someone wants an abortion they should have an abortion quickly and easily.

If this abortion restriction stuff ends up being true, would this play into your vote in the next election; or in other words, is this extreme right-wing conservatism (and it has gone incredibly right wing) still the preferred option for you ('blue above all') given it's basically a two-party race at the provincial level?
