I remember when it was once safe to walk 4 blocks to the 7-11 in temple when I was a small kid.

Ya. I spent my fist 7 years in Temple too. Then my parents got the hell of dodge. My Pogo Ball being stolen from the back yard was the last straw.

I used to live in Pineridge and we walked to the 7-11 also because they had better slurpees than the Macs by my house. I almost got creamed a few times crossing 32 Avenue on my bike. hehehe

Anybody remember Funky Punkers on 8th ave? Man, how I wanted to get Batman logos airbrushed onto my Converse Cons.......

Hahahaa! Oh man, do I ever! You sir, have a fantastic memory!

I only remember it because they sold glow in the dark Ghostbuster T-shirts, and because my mom would ditch me for hours down there while she cleaned out Arnold Churgin whenever they had a shoe sale.

What was the name of that head shop down there? I used to buy indian smokes when I was 13 from them. I think it's still there, actually.
I think the head shop you are thinking of is Boodlum, and it's still there. A tiny, narrow store stuffed with all kinds of interesting goods. Either that or Tropicana, cuz that one has been around for a while as well.

Does anyone remember Kelly's music store on 8th Ave as well? I remember very well the smell of the vinyl records in there, and the creak of the stairs that you went up to get to the Classical and Jazz sections, I think. Or maybe stereo components were sold up there? [/b][/quote]
Boodlums it is. I used to hit that place up whenever I went for a skate downtown. I don't remember the music store you're referring to, but I do remember buying records at the Attic whenever I was in the area.

The Attic.
I can't count the $$$ I spent at that place. I used to buy Nirvana bootlegs there for $50 a pop. ah, the days before CD Burners and P2P sharing.

How about Ten Foot Henry's just over the bridge on 10th street? That place was a diamond mine in it's heyday. I also remember seeing a few good bands at the Ace of Clubs (Hollywood North) on 9th ave. Damn, that was a lifetime ago.

anyone else remember that abandoned building on 10th street that skaters used to go in. there was a ramp in the rubble there.

Isn't 10 Foot Henry's currently the Night Gallery?

I remember that abandoned building (I think). Not too far from where the skate park is now? Someone actually finished that building not so long ago, if we're talking about the same place.

I've only lived in Calgary since last May but I'm sure of one thing that hasn't changed"
My Favourite Ice Cream Shop.

Go in there sometime and look on the wall where they have their plaques and awards. There is a photo there of the Stamps and downtown only has like 2 skyscrapers and the tower, that's it.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Bonzai water slides yet!

They just tore the last few pieces out recently...

The first job I ever had was at Bullwinkle's and believe me, if you saw what was going on in that kitchen you wouldn't miss it.

16 year-old cooks + $4/hour = 1 dirty kitchen.

On top of that, the managers were pulling down $6.75/hour and they got to that exalted position by being the stingiest pick-it-up-blow-it-off-put-it-on-the-plate-and-serve-it guys you ever did see.

Funny thing though -- when I quit after three months the kitchen-manager tried to talk me out of it by telling me to quit school and work there full-time and he held himself up as an example of what great things can happen if you ditch silly high-school and get deep into the animatronics 'n' pizza business.

yeah I did when I lived in Strathcona Park, now I'm 33 and when I visit Calgary every summer I'm shocked to see how so much has changed.

_remember when Calaway Park was outside Calgary surrounded by farm land
_I grad from Western Canada and 17th Ave back then was never that alive
_I remember when Stephen Avenue Mall was full of local owned stores like Funky Punkers I loved the shirts they sold there! Now it's all designer stores yuck!
_I can also remember when the Calgary Tower had that big red antenna on top
_I remember R.I.P Calgary Boomers, Drillers, Kickers and Strikers when will people learn pro soccer will never be a big sport in this city
_I also remember back when the Flames used to play in the Corral those are some old memories!
_ does anybody remember when afterschool CFCN used to have the Bugs Bunny/Flintstones hour it would start off with two cartoon shorts of Bugs Bunny and Friends then a Flintstones episode and then end with two more Bugs cartoons
_Lastly, who can forget Buck Shot is he still alive?

Lived and grew up in Bonavista for over 20 years..closer to Anderson, although a lot of friends were by Nickle.

The old stores in Bonavista Mall..Pet Store, Video Station (had to pay to get a rental membership), Centre Ice Sports

Southcentre with the Safeway where the Theatres were/now Indigo are...and the old arcade there.

The Southcentre Library, where one half was supposed to be a theatre.

Food City up in Canyon Meadows, The Book Attic up there too..Food Depot where the cheap theatres on Canyon Meadows are now.

Midnapore's grain elevators...when it was a drive out of town to get to Spruce Meadows

The circular hotel downtown

The old bus station, still standing, the brick building on the 2nd St side of Eau Claire

Mewata Stadium (when 2500 went there for pro soccer)

Crowchild before the Glenmore Interchange or the 33 Ave overpass.

Crazy Crazy's electronics, just off Edmonton Trail I think. The first Futureshop in the now vacant spot next to Players

St. Hubert chicken restaraunt where Luciano's is.

Woolco/Macloed mall

More to come
