Anyone in that list from 1-13 I can wrap my head around taking except Silyaev. Really hoping someone takes him ahead of us so he’s not even in the discussion.

This is the best part of the post. I'd be happy with any of the top 4 of these guys at 27.

And here's where I still think it's hard. If Buium and Iginla are both available, which do you take.
You call Jersey back and move markstrom and vancouvers pick to get 10. Tij and Buium would be an insane haul

We have rated 169th (i.e. 6th round) currently at Upside.
In our Chief Scout E-Mac's combining of NHL Central Scouting's segregated rankings, he comes up 185th.

Hopefully Conroy is getting a good look at Zetterberg.

As much as NHL teams may have a bias towards size, I think fans have a bias against it.
Silayev is an intriguing combination of size and mobility. At 9 - I would have zero issue taking him. But I also understand the concerns that he could be a Zadorov.
But he could be a lot more.
I think he goes earlier anyways.

His stock could fall.
Lindstrom returned for the Tigers brief playoffs. He played in games 1 and 2, missed game 3, then back for game 4 and 5. They were eliminated in 5 games. Lindstrom said he was not 100%.

The size thing is always interesting. Of course every team would love 6'3 players who can dangle and skate like the wind, but they are very rare.

If you look at Tampa, they had a big defence, but small forwards during the cup runs.

Colorado had bigger forwards and a smaller D.

I think the biggest thing our teams lacks is speed. Watching Colorado they play like they are on turbo. You can really overwhelm teams coming at them in waves with speed.

Seeing those Finals highlights of 04, the Flames didn't have the skill but man they played with a lot of speed. It's funny to look back at that, the league came back and put in rules that would have benefited teams that played fast, but for some reason Sutter went backwards and made is slower and older.

I’m seeing more and more that suggests Montreals list could look like
Demidov
Lindstrom
Iginla

Going reinbacher last year suggests they’ll go forward this year, especially with all of their other d prospects

Vegas also has a big D, most of whom were in place for their cup
Hague: 6'6
Hanifin: 6'3
Hutton: 6'3
Korczak: 6'3
Martinez: 6'1
McNabb: 6'4
AP: 6'3
Theodore: 6'1

etc.

As someone who is not in the know with prospects, why is Silyaev a 'stay-away' for so many people? He is Pronman's #2, and seems like is a future top-pairing D-man.

What are the negatives?

For me I think the issue is Pronman has his comparable as Chara which is a huge stretch at this point and why he's ranked so high.

The more likely comparison for me at this point in his career is Zadorov, which isn't bad but not high impact.
Zadorov is big, plays physical but also can skate very well. He's got flashes of offence as seen in his last year w/ Calgary but its not consistent and he's not a top 2D.

When you look at the available D, there's just more that have a higher upside/ceiling than Silyaev and I think would have more impact especially offensively.

Buium
Parekh
Dickinson

All the Zadorov comps make me not want him at 9 as I can't find any logic in drafting a defenseman this high that projects to a flawed NHLer that's ideal in a bottom pairing. The Flames need to aim higher with this pick.

Forgot about them. Kind of the same model as Tampa, larger back end and a bit smaller up front but fast.

So size is good, but not at the expense of speed and skill.

Think people see him as the safe pick...higher floor, lower ceiling type of pick.

His strongest strength are his size and defensive play, which is never sexy for a top 10 pick. His offensive game was inflated early in the season but was non-existent for the final 3/4 of the season which has people worried.

Brings the total to 16 and the cut point at 5 (need to make 5 lists to get an average). Nobody with less than 11 appearances made it into the first round.

Flames pick (currently 9th)
Code:
Flames	7	Anton Silayev	D	7.44
Flames	8	Zeev Buium	D	8.06
Flames	9	Zayne Parekh	D	9.06
Flames	10	Cole Eiserman	LW	9.94
Flames	11	Konsta Helenius	C	11.13
Vancouver pick (currently 27th)
Code:
Flames	25	N Artamonov	LW	29.85
Flames	26	Terik Parascak	RW	30.36
Flames	27	Henry Mews	D	31.17
Flames	28	Aron Kiviharju	D	31.60
Flames	29	Maxim Masse	F	32.10
Ranking top 15
Code:
1	M Celebrini	C	1.00
2	Ivan Demidov	RW	3.00
3	A Levshunov	D	4.25
4	Sam Dickinson	D	6.25
5	Berkly Catton	C	6.81
6	C Lindstrom	C	6.94
7	Anton Silayev	D	7.44
8	Zeev Buium	D	8.06
9	Zayne Parekh	D	9.06
10	Cole Eiserman	LW	9.94
11	Konsta Helenius	C	11.13
12	C Yakemchuk	D	12.19
13	Tij Iginla	C	12.63
14	Liam Greentree	RW	13.31
15	BrandseggNygard	RW	16.06
I will do the dance of joy if Parekh is our pick. He is 3rd on my list and the first D I would draft, no question. The other D men might be better defensively but Zane has generational offensive upside.

I'm just glad I like the list all the way to 13.

I love the Iginla story so I'm hoping for that, but if he goes earlier it just means other quality players will be available.

Can't imagine being disappointed on day one with the way things are shaping up.

Sounds like a challenge.

Incoming Flames trade down 3 times, all the way out of the 1st round.

For the longest time it seemed like the Flames had no right shot defenceman.

It seems like we are getting a lot. Also makes them more valuable on the trade market, especially ones who can create.
