1-8 would be Oilers vs Avs so is that really much of a difference?

Dallas would still be playing Vegas.

Yeah but the argument was that a good team had to go home. A good team was gonna go home regardless. Canucks still play Nashville.

That’s still significant as the Oilers didn’t earn the free spot on the Bingo card. The regular season standings should have more meaning than the randomness of this playoff format.
