Default Ocean's 13

Did anyone happen to watch it yet? If so, how was it? Even though the early reviews have been pretty mediocre, did it live upto the first one or not?

Saw it yesterday and was very pleased with the outcome. Some of the stuff was predictable, but the pace was very quick and the result was excellent. Good script, excellent performances all around, and a ton of laughs. Would recommend it. Oh, and I'm hoping for an Oceans 14 as well. The chemistry amongst these folks is great and leave you wanting more IMO.

The think the reviews are spot-on.

I totally disagree with Lanny's assessment - far too generous IMHO.

On the surface it is trying to pump out lots of 'style' but really it is pretty hollow underneath all of that. It is fun enough to watch i guess, but hardly memorable. The characters were simple, the plot too straight forward with no real twists, and a lot of the plot points were either outright implossible and/or depended far too much on everything working perfectly.

Only the first one was really any good. The third is the weakest by far.

Put it this way - there is no way you could actually pull off 80%+ of what is done in Ocean's 13 and it is not like it is even partially possible. As you watch you quickly become aware of the fact that more so than in either of the earlier films, you know the entire time that the entire movie is set up to work out perfectly.

Come on Claeren, it is a popcorn flick, what were you expecting, realism? Yeah, you could pick things apart like crazy, just like you can in pretty well every movie these days, but you have to take it for what it is, a distraction. Each one of these movies has been on the edge of reason, but they still manage to entertain and keep the audience engaged with the characters, and isn't that what a popcorn flick is all about?

Edge of reason is cool - bordering on ######ed, not so cool.

And there was NOTHING to capture your attention in the entire movie. It was strictly A to B, which is not at all what this type of movie should be. It should be where you THINK you are going A to B and end up over at G.

The first one had that, the second one had it but it felt artificial and contrived, and this one didn't have anything beyond a few silly side plots at the end.

** SPOILER ALERT **

I can only take so much "Oh shoot, i guess i will quickly and unexpectedly pull out my laptop in the middle of a casino and take 2 minutes to hack into the FBI(?) computer system, despite not being the 'computer guy', and then alter the appearance of 12(?) known criminals in real time without anyone noticing." Which if it had been part of the plan to get arrested, as it seemed to have been, should have been done ahead of time - not to mention the fact that changing the appearences of criminals would have come in handy LONG before actually needed!

Or "Hey, one state of the art boring machine broke down lets just bring in another without anyone noticing anything!!" which was absurd WITHOUT even thinking about the fact that the Chunnel machines are (1) COMPLETELY different from each other, (2) too huge to transport and (3) are still buried under the English Channel - or the fact they had ONE guy operating the entire thing.

etc etc. It was silly.... (and not good silly)

** END SPOILER ALERT **

I would give it 2.5/5 at best.

3/5 for Oceans 12 and a solid 4/5 for Oceans 11.

As I said, if I wanted to, I could pick that movie to pieces from a technical stand point, but I could do that with every movie made. That is what movies do, is stretch the realms of what is believeable. But hey, you do have to realize that the majority of America do not believe in evolution and do believe in intelligent design/creationism (cross threading I know), so any of this stuff is in the realms of possibility to the average movie goer. The huge leaps in logic is what makes these movies fun to go see, and I saw no more leaps in logic in this one than existed in the first one.

I thought the movie was alright, but not great.

I just didn't get the feeling of the group being one step ahead of everyone, and in fact, it felt like Ocean and the gang were beating up on a handicapped child rather than outwitting a worthy opponent.

The leaps in reality didn't bother me at all, except the face recognition part, that was it.

I thought the movie was pretty boring movie actually. I went with three friends and two of them fell asleep. It had a few good laughs, but for the most part I didnt enjoy it. I'd give it two out of five.

Yeah, that is what i am trying to get at....

So much of what they got away pulling off was only do-able because the opponent/target was totally inept.

I find it interesting that you will tear the Flames apart, the coaches apart, the GM apart, our star players apart, etc over the SMALLEST thing but can sit through a movie as bad as this and be entertained so fully.

I would have put money on you hating this movie and picking it apart!

Glad i didn't have the chance to bet on it!!

If you go in expecting something that will impact you deeply, and that you will mull over for days, this is not the movie for you.

If you go in expecting a light-hearted and fun time that you will forget as soon as you walk out of the theatre, you will love it. This is what I was expecting, and this is exactly what made it very enjoyable.

I don't think it was supposed to be anything else than a 'fun movie.'

I like movies that stretch it a bit...at least they keep it interesting.

I love movies that stretch things a bit.

Instantly having a solution to ANY problem that comes up is not 'stretching it' though.

Exactly. I wasn't expecting an airtight script, Oscar worth performances, or a movie that would make me think. I was expecting a movie that would make me laugh and forget about all the things in the world that piss me off. The first one set my expectation, and the follow up movies lived up to those expectations. I think this is why sequels never fair well for most people. They think the next one will be better, instead of taking the follow up for what it is; an attempt to recapture the magic that made the first movie great.

I didn't like the second, but I really liked the third. I thought it was a pretty decent movie. I was certainly entertained.

Like some have mentioned, it's not very realistic in some of the things they pulled, but then again, I'm looking forward to transformers, and we all know how possible alien robots are.

... which are based on General Motors vehicles, like the Camero. And these things are supposed to be indestructible? When was the last thing that GM built that didn't fall apart the minute you drove it off the lot???
