He hadn't eclipsed 50 points since 2018/19 season. His stats in Calgary were declining year over year to the point he was a 23 point player in 65 games in the 2021/22 season. There's a reason Treliving had to give up a 1st round pick just to unload the last year of his deal. He's rebounded to a 20+ goal, 50 point player this season which is quite frankly career average for him. I just don't see him coming back to the place where his game started to unravel.

That would be terrible. American player, not happy with a crappy team in Arizona or a crappy team in Ottawa, and UFA in a year?

Yeah, I can't imagine they get Chych, although it's worth noting that he represents Canada internationally.

I wonder where Chychrun wants to be...not like he really had a deep connection to one area.

Dad was an NHLer who was raised in Ottawa/Quebec, and Jakob's grandfather and sister still live in Ottawa.

He was raised in Florida though where his dad works now as a color commentator.

But he played minor hockey in Detroit, then Toronto, then Sarnia.

Most of his dad's career was with either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

Really does seem like maybe he just does want a chance to play on a contender...I wonder if Ottawa would look at something around Ekblad for Chychrun in the offseason...

Monahan didn't need to get out of Calgary to get better. Monahan needed to get healthy, period.

True… and for a while there, a lot of people were saying he was done.

The Sutter system clearly wasn't for him either. He's a player that needs to played towards his strengths and needs some skill on his line. He's not the type of player to elevate a bottom six line.

The retcon of how Monahan was beloved here and not whined about constantly is really something.

CP was full of people calling that guy lazy, untalented, and just a product of tap ins from Gaudreau. The random drive by Huberdeau complaints in game threads now? Those used to belong to Monahan.

He’s lucky to still be in the league. His body was broken by the end of his tenure with us. Full credit to him for re-establishing himself. But his value was less than zero when Treliving got rid of him. Thus why he had to send a first with him.

It's pretty much the luck you expect as a Flames fan.

I mean, a lot of the time the organization doesn't do itself any favors.

But to have their homegrown stud #1C break down from injury right in the middle of that last cores competitive window, severely limiting their upside and potential for success, to the point where they have to package a valuable asset to move his cap, only to watch completely rebound on the team they traded him to, to the point where he actually returns valuable assets in his next trade.

And now here the Flames are, rebuilding or retooling or whatever, and they have to watch a 1st round pick fly out the window in a draft where they should be stock piling draft picks.

Apparently Stone is confirmed to be back tonight. So dumb. Nobody is saying it’s against the rules but it’s not how it’s supposed to be used. Hope they get swept.

Once again Cam, please feel free to ignore all Sec posts and let the rest of us enjoy them. I would think you would get the hint after having this conversation over, and over, and over again...but we can't all be blessed by Christ.
