One of the reasons I love spotify is their weekly recommended for you playlist. While I don't always love the songs, they are usually really good at showing me stuff from artists I've never heard before. ( unlike youtube music, which kept trying to show me guns and roses and ACDC)
Today they recommended songs from Taylor Swifts new album. #### that. I went out of my way and blocked the artist. I hope this isn't a new thing where I the recommended music is cursed.

Oh I get it.
Man...it was before my time, but the Old-Timers at Greyhound told me some stories about maintenance at the old Main Depot downtown across from what is now Eau Claire.
Pouring Oil and Diesel just wherever...burying batteries in the yard!
I'd just prefer to let a proper shop be responsible for disposing of the old oil.

It's really not much effort to pour it back in the 5 litre oil jug and take it to the fire hall.

What is all this about taking Oil to the Fire Hall? Is this a real thing? What is the Fire Hall going to do with it?

Save it in the oil jugs and take it to the firehall once a year.
Time wise even if I count going to Canadian Tire as a separate trip I still will be faster than if there is any line at a shop. Now if it always coincides with when you take it to the shop for regular maintenance or if you can drop it off on your way to work you might be able to minimize the time loss. But if you have to drive to an oil change place without an appointment doing it at home will be faster every time especially if you can double up on cars.

The city has recycling depot's at most firehalls. You can drop of oil and all sorts of household chemicals, paint, batteries, etc.
I just wish they would also accept frying oil.

Exactly. Producing hydrocarbons is just remediating the formation.

Just seems odd to me. Since you are expected to signal right when wanting to leave, what's the purpose of keeping the left signal on in the circle?
There should be 2 signal defaults. None when wanting to stay in circle, right signal when exiting. Now I see more left signals than I do right signals, and that really pisses people off when wanting to enter.
|
Maybe because we don't have very many here, but signaling your intended turn prior to entering is super helpful for those approaching and makes the roundabout more efficient.

I use the above one everyday. If a car is approaching the opposite side but and entering while i am approaching, it is nice to know if i need to yield or if i can go right through.

Where I live there's a city owned depot where I can take the used oil. I also had the air filter, cabin air filter, and tire rotation due plus an inspection of the brake system. The filters are both 5 minute jobs max and shops absolutely rape you on those. Dealer quoted me $550 for everything and the brake service on its own is 230. The oil, and filters set me back about $90. Of course now my garage smells like oil and I likely need to add a few bucks for clean up supplies.
All the oil should fit in one pan...but I have 2, and after this debacle I'm going to invest $10 into buying a third, plus my own worthless time into coming up with a splash shield for next time....

Another way of looking at it is just returning it to its natural home. Then we can drill that bitch up and sell it again. I LIKE IT!
Edit: Clearly, late to the party. Oh well.

I do my own Oil Changes on my vehicles.
After having the same vehicle for 14 years it gets pretty routine.
I buy my Dino oil when it goes on sale so I always have enough for 1 - 2 changes on hand in a cabinet.
Filters as well when they go on sale.
I keep an old 5 gallon bucket with cover in the garage for storage until it is full.
Usually about 3-4 changes depending on the vehicle.
When full I bring it to the landfill and dump it for free.
For me its just the convenience of doing it when / where I want to.

If your car is set up well for using an oil extractor (i.e. filter can be changed from above and the dipstick hole is big enough) it's totally worth it. I have a relatively cheap pneumatic extractor and I can do both of our cars in about 15 minutes without having to mess around with jacks or ramps. And there's basically zero mess at all, as the oil stays contained in the unit.
