You know what, oh well... forget about the draft for a sec; that was a really fun game. Still hoping we can get Kadri and Coleman to 30 goals each, so that we can have three 30-goal scorers on our team this year.

Maybe they will.

The Hawks fell to #3 when they won their last two games of the year and knocked Calgary and Pittsburgh out of the playoffs.

They played hard and won the lottery.

OK.
I’m not saying I thought those were absolutes but with teams resting players before the playoffs, you never know. Now it’s impossible though so it’s a moot point.

Good job Flames. The team never quit, I will give them that and I guess we can all take the moral victory in that. This team just lacks any semblance of elite talent. What’s the best way of obtaining that?

That sucks seeing so many people mad that the flames didn't lose.

They played a rookie goaltender and a defnsemen with less than 50 NHL games worth of experience for 22+ minutes.

Unfortunately, there are just some really bad teams and the flames have to play them to finish out this season.
Yes, I am less upset with a loss given our situation, but I will never be sour over winning.

Yet the Flames find ways to lose to those same really bad teams when the games actually matter.

Super soft schedule but knowing the Flames, they would probably lose and not make the playoffs.
It's funny, I was thinking the same thing. If they needed to win out to make the playoffs they'd lose to these bottom feeders for sure.

3. Sharks

Maybe, that just means somebody good drops.

Celebrini is a lock at 1.

But the rest of the top 13 is still such a toss up:

Demidov: one of the best Russian prospects in years.
Levshunov: Super impressive freshman NCAA season and led his team in scoring
Dickinson: Has drawn comparisons to Drew Doughty and Alex Pietrangelo
Silayev: Unique combination of size, skating, and skill and already great in his own zone.
Catton: Maybe not a C at the NHL level but great production
Eiserman: Best pure goal scorer in the entire draft, and the rest of his offensive game might be underrated
Parekh: one of the best offensive seasons for a dman in the OHL ever
Lindstrom: Skill, size and speed. And projects as a top line C which the team needs.
Buium: Led his team to a national championship, was second in team scoring, and one of only two U-19 dmen to score 50 points in NCAA history. As an 18 year old Freshman.
Helenius: Had 36 points in 51 games in a men's league. 4th most productive u-18 season in Liiga history.
Iginla: Great season, showed his potential.
Yakemchuk: Unique tool kit. Big, quick, Skilled and mean.

Honestly as good as Iginla looks I'm not sure he's clearly better or above any of those other guys in the top 13. And really as long as the Flames come away with one of those 13 guys they are getting a guy with huge potential

It's a toss up but it would be nice to give your scouts their preferred selection instead of whatever happens to be available out of the grouping.

Especially considering how important it is for us to hit on these right now.

Scouts rarely have one guy in mind at any particular pick outside maybe the top 5.

Was there, in fact, a time this season when the games really mattered? They were never in the playoff picture.

The Flames' future success does not rely solely on 2024 first round draft position. It also relies on young players gaining experience at NHL level.

This was a gutsy comeback effort in which two rookies scored and a rookie goalie recorded the win.

Who's to say this game did not benefit the Flames in the long run.

I’s to say. The team would be better off with a better draft position than one game win at seasons end. Appreciate the young guys coming out and playing hard but not ideal when the biggest gift is tanking with three games left.

I can understand being disappointed with a win, as losses are preferrable.
But those that are over-reacting seem to be ignoring that overall this team has had a horrible winning percentage since the deadline. God awful.

Yup.

And not like they are winning games they shouldn't win. They beat Arizona and Anaheim...who are even better tank commanders than the Flames.

Its hard to suck hard enough to get a top 5 pick in the NHL, its remarkable the Oilers and some other teams were able to be so consistently bad for so long to get those top picks.

Fair. But I think it would be nice to put the nail in the coffin by giving some young AHLers some extra playing time and giving the vets a back seat with less ice time. Kadri scoring two goals in the third period, damn. Great he’s playing well but damn.
