The difference in drafting 6th vs 9th (which is what this win could swing us) is pretty substantial.
Tij could be gone by 9th and it's 2.5% less chance at lottery

I don’t really care about 8th or 9th. It’s the potential drop down to 11 that would suck.
At least Kuzmenko is pumping his value.

If the Flames are that hot after a player that’s available at 8 they could do a deal with Seattle. Who I’m sure is much less picky.

There was no way to improve the position better than 8th with a loss.

Why’d they be less picky?

Good ole Flames. Can't win when it matters, can't lose when it matters.

That's not for certain even if they drop to 9 or 10. Really pick 2-12 in this draft is a bit of a crap shoot TBH.
You have Celebrini.
Then any of Demidov, Levshunov, Dickenson, Lindstrom, Silayev, Catton, Iginla, Parekh, Buium, Eiserman, Helenius could go at any point between 2 and 12 IMO.
And Yakemchuk, Greentree, or Brandsegg-Nygard could potentially jump into that group too throwing things for even more of a loop.

No but now it’s impossible to get down to 6th. That ship just sailed.

Yeah, get the 11th overall this year and then do the same next year after signing some UFAs just to give the pick to Montreal

Having a better draft pick is objectively better and likely results in many more future wins. It’s a rational line of thinking.
Oilers fans are the most delusional and irrational people in all of sport.
And Oiler fans/management never had to hope for losses, because their team was just that reliably bad anyways.

Because Jarome Iginla didn’t play for the Kraken. And that’s the only player that doesn’t fall into a general category that both Seattle and Calgary could pick anywhere from 7-10. I will bet that there will be some player currently ranked between 5-8 available at 9OA.

That was always going to be a stretch with how their schedule was.

Back to the murky middle. Probably go 4-0 to end the year when we could have had a top 6 pick. And instead draft 11th.

Absolutely but a chance still remained. Now they have no chance and 7th isn’t happening either with Ottawa having to win out and Calgary lose out in regulation. This was a big game in the reverse standings and the Flames blew it.

Yeah, I’m not going to pretend to be happy they won so I can claim some make believe moral superiority over other fans.
Winning this game sucks big time and probably cost us 2-3 spots in the draft.

You thought they’d lose to Vancouver and SJ, AZ would beat the Oilers, plus the Sens would beat both NYR and the Bruins?
OK.

Imagine if the Flames were battling for a playoff spot and this was their schedule to close out the season.
Super soft schedule but knowing the Flames, they would probably lose and not make the playoffs.

We’ll have to see how things shake out but the Flames could be picking 12th if they win out and a team jumps them in the lottery. I think Tij will end up going top ten because of his playoffs.
