I hope not. If it’s only temporary it helps our tanking as we might get clobbered into last place.

From the rumors it sounds like this is gonna happen once the totes go to Utah.
Times like these the reports are more about mild statement release than about pure speculation.
IMO, this whole thing has been mapped out for a year already.

Where was this reported? Also it would be incredibly dumb to split up one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL across divisions. It’s honestly hard to imagine the Flames and Oilers not being in the same division. Every good needs their no good counterpart. Wing and Wang.

Sounds like it’s calgary and Edmonton to the central and Colorado and Utah to the pacific. Makes zero sense.

Everything about this has happened with the league’s blessing.

Makes perfect sense. The Flames and Wild rivalry is back! Flames and Blues playoff battles are back.

Calgary and Dallas in the same division is the dumbest thing ever. Look at the distance.

A Houston expansion team would go in the Central.

Expecting the Utah management to be quite aggressive in the Free Agent/Trade market this offseason.

Even further to Nashville. Nashville is slightly further away from Calgary as Toronto is.

Hopefully, the experiment in Phoenix is done for good. It would be disappointing to see them get another opportunity with an expansion team.

I think it would be great to see Phoenix get an expansion team in partnership with the Suns. I think with actual competent ownership and a building downtown, it'd be a smash hit. Just not for a while — 7-8 years, I think.

The realignment rumour doesn't really make any sense.
Phoenix and SLC are basically equally as far west as each other. SLC and Denver are both still east of Edmonton and Calgary, so this move doesn't really change the status quo.
If anything, Arizona being in the Pacific made more sense than Utah would. Phoenix is much closer to the SoCal teams and are on the same time as the Pacific for the first and last months of the season (plus all the playoffs -- although, that hasn't been an issue in recent years).
From the perspective of the rest of the league:
It shouldn't make any difference to the Eastern Conference teams since they'll still play every Western team once at home and once on the road.
I'd think Vancouver and Winnipeg would both prefer the Canadian teams in their Division for slightly easier travel and as a better draw for ticket sales when those teams are in town.
The other US teams in each Division would likely prefer SLC and Colorado in their Division for the easier travel for one less cross-border trip during the season. Although, even then, it likely isn't any fewer border crossings.
For the California teams, instead of doing two trips each season where they play Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary on the same trip, they'll have one trip where they play all three teams, and then another trip where they just play Vancouver. With the current schedule, they'll play two road games in Alberta every other season anyway.
