SLC and Utah in general seem appealing to me. I'd love to visit there one day.

I'm surprised to see there are a few posters here from Utah. Does it go back to when the Flames had an affiliate there?

Isn't gambling basically illegal in Utah? How's that gunna jive with the League, feels like half their major partners are scummy ass sportsbooks

Trevor Lewis is 37. I wonder if he'd come back for one more year for the chance to play in his hometown? I believe he's the only Utah-born player in the NHL.

Utah is actually a really awesome place, especially if you’re outdoorsy. The mountains are literally in your backyard, it’s relatively clean, and there is tons of camping, hiking, climbing, skiing, mountain biking, 4x4ing, dirt biking, or whatever activities you are in to. SLC has everything you need and is easy to get in & out of flying or driving. The desert areas of southern Utah are absolutely spectacular. SLC is actually a lot like Calgary but with a better climate and more Mormons.

The culture down there takes some getting used to though. Most people are really friendly but I did find the whole place felt like it had this weird judgy feeling, like you were being evaluated everywhere you went. I only lived there for a year and loved the place but never really felt like I fit in.

I think Steve Konowalchuk was from there as well.

Edit, nevermind. You obviously meant current players.

Lewis on the coaching staff maybe?

He's in pretty tight with the Kings... I can see his staying there in an off-ice role.

The SLC Missionaries with a logo of two young men in crisp white short sleeve dress shirts with a book of mormon in their breast pocket would be perfect. Third jersey would be the Angel Moroni blowing his trumpet.

Lewis has 8 goals and 15 points and doesn’t miss a game at 37 years old. he will play next year I bet.

3rd jersey would have to be something like this:

There have been only 5 NHL players from Utah, and only 1 active (Lewis)

Steve Konowalchuk (790 games)
Dylan Olsen (124 games)
Richard Bachman (49 games)
Daniel Brickley (5 games)

What a joke this has been from the start. Years and years and years of being told this and that nonsense about the market in Arizona, and how if we didn't have this joke of a team, we wouldn't have a player like Mathews in the league etc.

Bottom line is that this has been a massive failure and Bettman looks like a specific fool in this case. They tried to sell this nonsense forever when it was apparent it wasn't working from how many owners and scenarios?

Remember all that garbage about how incredible the atmosphere and how fun the Yotes playing in the college arena? It was going to blow our socks off? They can't even sell out that. Solid business case over there. Meanwhile cities like Calgary and Winnipeg are getting threats of relocation when all these cities have ever done is support their teams, some like Calgary, to another disaster decade.

I am a die hard hockey fan, a Flames fan and Calgarian. All this Coyote nonsense over the years and everything that I have seen from the NHL/Flames ownership group has left a sour taste in my mouth. Coyotes selling for more than $1 billion ($1.2 maybe) and the city of Calgary/province is literally paying ownership billions so they don't relocate? Nobody relocating profitable teams when their true valuation could be $2+ billion.

Unreal. I want to see the press conference when Bettman says "Nobody could have foreseen this ending!"

Where's LA going to move their Frozen Fury preseason game to? It used to be in Vegas, then they moved it to SLC.

San Diego? Portland? The funniest would be if they moved it to Glendale... which isn't as crazy as it sounds because AEG (the Kings owner) now operates the arena for the city.

I remember when Konowalchuk was in the WHL playing for Portland. Kamloops radio guy at the time was telling a story how him an his brother were too good for the minor hockey in the city and there wasn't any other hockey around. So they put them in the local men's hockey league to try and find them better competition.

The Phoenix metro area has 2 NHL-sized arenas built more recently than the Saddledome. And the Yotes have failed out of both of them. Considering how wasteful it is for them to want to build *yet another* arena... bring on SLC.
