I have thought so in the past but what will be the catalyst?

Pro sports team are still rare. The growth in availability of these franchises is much slower than the growth in number of billionaires.

Meanwhile taxpayers are still more than happy to help out most of these teams.

I doubt we see a major correction unless there is some other dramatic economic event.

Use an existing template with the Arizona colours (like the 2021 home and away). Slap on a new crest. Voila. Bob's yer uncle.

Wait a season for a third jersey.

The team would be outfitted. Initial scarcity of the fan apparel would be rectified soon enough (creates a demand some would say).

Why would Salt Lake or Houston even want the Coyotes? It's barely an AHL team and they would have a better team through the expansion draft.

‘Barely an AHL team’ is a gross exaggeration. It's not even the worst team in the NHL, and any NHL team will wipe the floor with any AHL team.

As for the expansion draft: We don't even know that there will be one, or when. Do you want to buy a team that's available now, or wait for what could be several years?

One thing the Coyotes do have is a big stockpile of picks and prospects. With good management, they could easily be a contender by the time the next NHL expansion actually happens.

Which team is worse than the Coyotes? It's a joke of a franchise and a joke of a team. They play in a curling rink! lol

Relocation is hundreds of millions less than an expansion team. The NHL would also prefer an expansion team to get that sweet expansion money.

They're 27 points ahead of the Sharks. 'Nuff said.

Look, we're not talking about someone buying the Coyotes to keep them in the high school gym. We're talking about buying them to relocate to a real arena in a city with real fans to buy real tickets. None of the business dealings of the current owners matter a rat's arse once the team is moved, and the team itself, in terms of talent, is better than several NHL clubs and far better than any AHL team.

Ya.... but getting a relocation fee is better than the team folding. Or the headache of the league running the team, which has been the case before. Owners tossing $$$ into a kitty to prop up a competing team?

Agreed, but I was responding to someone asking why Utah or Houston would want the Coyotes vs what could be a more successful expansion team. If I'm a Utah owner trying to bring a team to there, I would much rather pay a relocation fee vs an expansion fee.

If there is an expansion team in Arizona, yes.

I'm highly skeptical that anybody will pay a billion dollars (the rumoured amount) to put a hockey team in the Phoenix area.

Utah Morman Hornets!

But the Honey Bee was the official, I dunno, bee. Something like that.

Swarm it is. But Shakers seems to have all the momentum. Well, here.

Technically, it's only momentum if you keep going in the same direction. Shakers kind of go back and forth quite rapidly.

I wouldn’t count on the new owner getting it much cheaper compared to expansion. There will be a purchase price and some kind of relo fee (call it whatever you want) and I don’t see why the total would be much less than the going rate for expansion.

I would much rather have the prospect pool of coyotes than gamble on an expansion draft. Teams wised up after giving Vegas too much durring their expansion draft.
