Good call by the ump. A total balk.

The starting lineup is better without Varsho in it. Having him come off the bench to run or late inning defense should be his role now.

I'd love to know what ritual sacrifice Cal Raleigh made to what baseball god in order for him to crush homeruns every time he plays the Jays.

Overall a good game. Atmosphere was pretty muted from past home openers but that was to be expected given the bad start to the season and the long ceremonies. Game itself, the start they connected when it mattered which is good but the balls they were swinging at were questionable. Poor decisions, good outcome. Hope they can figure it out more as a win is a win. I did like the renovations behind the plate. They look good and up to par with a lot of works. But it still lacks that special thing. Next they need to fix the washrooms. Those continue to be an atrocity.

We def had different experiences. I was sitting in the new seats straight down 3rd baseline (411) and our section was rowdy af. Really good times. Constant buzz in the stadium and some dudes were actually heckling the Seattle RF every 3td inning or so. I had a great time and the atmosphere was awesome

Edit - they need to add some protective netting down there though because any foul bowls going down 1st or 3rd baselines are potentially going to ding some people not paying attention!

Can’t discount your experience at all. But in the 500s there was no atmosphere. I’ve never seen the starting lineup not get many claps. I honestly couldn’t believe how quiet it was. Ten years ago it was a drunk fest. I’m sure it was because of the poor start to the season.

Do you think any of the Rogers employees like the renovations?

Pretty crazy that the renovation reduced capacity by 8000 seats. Tonight was a sellout at 40069. It doesn't look like that many are gone when you see it, but wow.
At say $80 a lower bowl seat that's $640000 in revenue they need to make by upping prices on the new seats in the lower bowl with 8000 less to draw revenue from.

Nah, they were never selling out so they don't need to account for losing 8000 seats worth of revenue. They can still accommodate the vast majority of those fans. They sold more than 42k only 16 times last season, and of those games only squeaked over 43k once. So at very worst they're not able to sell tickets to 3k fans, and having a couple dozen sellouts per year probably helps them enough on its own to outweigh that. You get some FOMO and that pushes people off the fence to get tickets.

It's not just that some sections had seats removed for bars and other features, it's that the seats are bigger to accommodate larger people in the 2020s vs. the late 80s.

		| The Toronto Blue Jays#won their home opener#last night, but some fans were still#angry.
Not mad#at the game, in which Jose Berrios threw 6⅔#shutout innings and Davis Schneider drove in two runs as they defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-2. And not necessarily annoyed at the Rogers#Centre dome, which was closed.

No, fans were upset#at the placement of a longtime icon in the stands: Home Plate Lady. Specifically, that she wasn't behind home plate, but off to the side.
