Again. I said it during the summer, we had to get rid of him.

Ever since his buddies left he lost his Mojo and whatever Treliving offered him? No way.

I was going to create a thread to discuss the "best NHL trade this season" but honestly I can't think of a single trade that would top turning Lindholm into Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, a 1st and a 4th.

Like, I mean... this has to be an all-timer. Especially when you consider Lindy is just a rental.

This was a great trade for Conroy. Lindholm will be kicking himself at not signing the offer from the Flames at the beginning of the year. I doubt he gets over 6.5 million from anyone, unless he becomes a beast in the playoffs.

I think it was Conroy that offered Lindholm the extension.

A rental with as many points as Kuzzy has goals and isn't even playing games.

Can't wait to see what the full damage is when the Flames move kuzzy as a high value rental next season.

The total haul of futures that come from moving an underperforming lindholm is going to be massive.

Finally on the other side of a Gilmour or Phaneuf trade... lol

I genuinely dont know. I think you might be right, but I thought it was Treliving, but cant be sure.

Do we know what that offer was? Theres lots of rumours out there.

Again, I'd have had no issues with Lindholm staying, but the price and term had to be right, and Lindholm seemingly (I'm no insider) wanted a King's Ransom.

So I have no idea what Conroy's offer was. But I'm betting that whatever it was, Lindholm probably wishes that he'd taken it.

Move him? Why wouldn't we sign him? He's the kind of player(s) we want.

Lindholm had by far the least smoke about re-signing. Whether that was his choice or Conroy's we won't ever really know. I would have to think if Conroy circled back with an offer in the 8s at 8 million later in the season then Lindholm would still be a Flame

While I dont inherently disagree, and I think he's got a lot more talent to display, we dont really know who or what we need until a few more wrinkles are ironed out.

Andrei Kuzmenko will be 29 when any extension kicks in

Kuzmenko goes from fun feel good story to a whipping boy if the Flames sign him to a contract that is longer than two to three years. He is the perfect filler to let pad stats and then sell at the deadline.

Perfect! Young and fresh.

No one's winning anything with a room full of 18 year olds. We're going to need a few guys in their 20s too.

Oh no!

Kuzmenko is the perfect player for a rebuilding team - talented, entertaining, can score goals, can get fans on their feet. But doesn't cause them to win too many gamy games.

As I said last week, Treliving couldn't offer Lindy an extension, he was gone before July 1st.

The intel I got early on was Conroy offered $65.6 over 8 years(8.2m) and Lindy turned it down.

Sure, in 4-5 years when we're hopefully competitive. There is never a shortage of late 20s players looking for a home. Conroy needs to continue using cap space as an asset.

Flames need to stick to a plan and trading Kuzmenko for a haul should be the motive versus signing him to a contract that takes him into the 30s while Calgary isn’t competitive. He’s a nice player but continuing with positive asset management should be the goal.

The quicker we stockpile young assets the quicker we can turn the ship around long term instead of gaining 2-3 places in the standings due to Kuzmenkos pretty goals and losing out on a better player at the draft.

We did a good first year setup of a quick rebuild, the philosophy should remain the same for a few more years.

If there's an offer that's around a 2nd and a 3rd for Kuzmenko at the deadline you gotta pull the trigger!

A buddy of mine in Ontario has seen Brzustewicz live a couple times - his assessment is “He’s nuts - he looks like he’s playing in the wrong league. Average skater, terrific passer, high IQ player. Needs AHL time.”
