TBH it only really makes sense because it's WM 40...so you expect some nostalga throwback.
And because of the way they structured this whole thing.
If they went down the route of a triple threat match, or if it was something like WM 30 where they had Cody vs Rock night 1 to earn the title shot night 2 then I think that would have worked better.
But with having the tag match night 1...that it feels obvious Bloodline will win to make it a Bloodline rules match...you're going to have an interference filled match.
And if you're going to have Rock in 2024, then you might as well have Austin in 2024 too.
And honestly either Rock or Reigns turning on one another at WM makes no sense with how they've built this. They can do the turn but it needs to happen after WM with the loss being the trigger.

Hey if it works, why not. WWE can cap their go-home show with a nostalgia act. But you may as well go big or go home, get Triple H, Shawn Michael, Mankind, Undertaker and Kane to get involved. Bonus points for Shane and Steph!

They're only draws when they can leech off of someone else's popularity, like Omega and Sting.

So you don't understand why what you're saying is considered a logical fallacy.
https://twitter.com/user/status/1773453924994797942
You're talking about a 5% drop in demo, which is basically peanuts. Using the same logic, Toni Storm and Swerve should be off TV because the ratings dipped during the start of their segments, too.
The bigger problem is the way Tony books the show. It's pretty clear he thinks he's being smart by putting his main event at the start of the show to pop ratings from the BBT lead-in, but it leaves the audience with no reason to stick with the show all the way through.
https://twitter.com/user/status/1773806016938799136
Ultimately, the ratings discussion is kind of silly at the moment when it comes to Dynamite. 18-49 ratings are consistently in the top 5 for cable programming each quarter, and are very similar to where Raw ranks on a quarterly basis.
They need to do more to improve their attendance, but the sky isn't exactly falling at the moment.

Whataboutism time. Sting was 28-0 on AEW and their top draw. It's showing with the decline in ratings upon his retirement. If you're using age as a point of contention.
I actually have no qualms with Sting and his record, but wrestling companies using nostalgic acts is not a new thing. How else would the decaying husk of Chris Jericho get on television every week?

Nothing to do with age. Just the age of the act. But it's a money maker so go for it.

I don't know a single AEW fan who doesn't want Jericho to go to commentary full-time at this point. He's clearly cooked. Even his promos are trash at this point.

Why did they take away Jericho's song? That was his main selling point.
Jericho was actually my favourite wrestler post-Benoit murder/suicide, up until I found out about his political and conspiracy beliefs. I thought he did great work with AEW and the Inner Circle, but I agree he should move to full time commentary.

Yeah, I wouldn't care for this one bit, it would feel to much like Edge Vs Christian.

"They" didn't. Jericho has creative control over his character, which is why you see him constantly rotating between Jericho characters (Lionheart, Painmaker, Fozzy, etc.)
Dude is way over the hill and doesn't know when to let it go. He's got Ric Flair syndrome.

Ideally you'd have a new Rock and new Austin to be focusing WM40...but let's be honest there is nobody in the entire industry at that level and Wrestling is meant to be fun.
Sting's retirement match with his sons dressing up as his previous versions was fun.
The Rock being back has been fun, and Austin coming out to give him a stunner would also be fun.

I agree, it's all about fun. That's probably why I would watch WWE, to see an alumni show up as a guest or something. Austin/Rock would be a fun token event to 90's wrestling fans, just like WCW, ECW, or any New Generation/Attitude era stuff.
I guess by the same token, if any wrestling fan can't casually watch a Copeland/Christian I Quit match, in Toronto, on cable TV and have fun - no matter if they were in WWE or AEW - then that's a shame. They're missing good stuff.

Did you watch the match? And/or follow the storyline with Copeland vs. Christian's patriarchy?

I think the only criticism I'd have for both AEW and WWE at this point around nostalgia asks is that if you're going to do a nostalgia storyline then try not to have major titles involved.
Roman vs The Rock never really required the title to be involved (although they booked themselves into that corner and done a good job of turning that around)
Sting and Darby never needed the tag titles involved.
Copeland and Christian also probably didn't require the TNT Title to be involved (although this one is less of a criticism because I think Christian has helped that title overall).
Hogan - Rock never needed a title. Cena vs Rock Pt. 1 didn't need a title.
For Cena vs Rock pt 2 taking the title off Punk to do it for the belt the second time around was a bit silly. Just like Goldberg vs Brock didn't need the title at WM 33 and ruined a good Owens/Jericho storyline.

I mean a little bit, but TBH I only really watch the last 1.5 hours of Raw and listen to 30 minutes of the drive through a week. Obviously I watch a little more before WM, and then watch other things.
I am sure I am missing tons of great wrestling. But that is a price I am willing to pay if I am going to watch all 1098+ episodes of One Piece.

I'd actually disagree with this. Everyone - wrestlers, fans, and Tony himself - wanted Sting to have one last title run, especially since his record was damn near perfect in AEW. Bring the tag titles to the conclusion of Sting's storied career was a great way to give the titles prominence, give the rub to Darby, and still come out on top of the Bucks at a PPV (which is what most of us ####s wanted). Sting and Darby had fantastic chemistry, and that had to be rewarded too.
It was a fun way to position the tag scene before the current tag-team tournament.
But again, this is why this is all so subjective. One man's art is another man's ass crud.

I think it was fine but didn't really add to it IMO ...probably would have been better if they had the titles earlier and had more of a lengthy run that culminated in his retirement.
Just seemed kind of weird to have them win the title 3 weeks before he was set to retire and then only defend it on his last ever show, and then vacate the belts.

That's fair, but they were a face team and white hot going into Sting's retirement. You gotta reward the fans with a Sting title reign one last time, and no singles belt would have accomplished that or been taken seriously for a guy in his 60's (even though he could still put on a great match).

Do any of the top guys wrestle on free tv?
In the attitude days, they always had Rock/Austin/HHH/Undertaker/Kane/Mankind in the mains the events and stuff.
