CBJ will be looking for answers to keep their club filling arena seats.
I'm sure the Blue Jackets would offer him a Kadri-like contract outright to try and rekindle the duo of him and Gaudreau.

He probably needs to look for a 1 or 2 year deal where he will be playing with some talented payers. If I were him I'd be calling up CBJ.

Is Elias Lindholm about to become the next John Klingberg?
Honestly, if I were in his shoes and a team were offering 7x7, I would have to think long and hard about passing that up.

Apparently there are rumours that CBJ may want to unload Gaudreau on another team. If so, I can't imagine them having much appetite to add Lindholm.
(Kevin Paul Dupont, of the Boston Globe, mentioned a Gaudreau trade as a possible item of business for the Blue Jackets' new GM once hired.)

Wait, is someone suggesting that we throw a 7x7 at him?

So trade for Gaudreau, sign Lindholm for a cheap one year deal and let them run a line on their own.

Boston probably will also be a player for Lindholm, given the deadline rumors.
Could also see him back to the Canes.

There's probably a team out there that would tie up $10.5 million+ in cap space for those two. I sincerely hope it's not the Flames.

Would CBJ be interested in a new and improved Jonathan Huberdeau?

I really doubt the Canes would be that interested in lindholm especially at a UFA price if they didn't wanna sign him the last go around.

Not surprising.
I’m probably not the only one who was/is a bit skeptical Gaudreau plays out that contract in Columbus.

The Canes wanted to sign Lindholm, but not at the figure he was asking for. They were willing to trade him as part of a deal for a couple of premium assets in Hamilton and Fox. That doesn't mean they didn't want him.
However, I don't believe any team is going to offer Lindholm a UFA contract on anything like the terms he turned down from the Flames. If he keeps on the way he's going, he may actually have to take a pay cut.

Kevin Paul Dupont must not realize JG has a NMC.

Ya that’s great if they want to trade him. The reality is no one is going to take Jonny without a sweetener. The best they can hope for is finding someone to play with him that increases his stats and has chemistry with. Gaudreau is in the same position as hubby. They are both on their teams long term and hoping to gel with someone to take them back to stardom.

Add in the Flames tax and it's $14.5M.

Face it, Calgary won't be a destination for any premium UFA's as they rebuild/retool.
Even Conroy indicated they'd be looking at shorter term UFA's. No use signing a guy like Reinhart to a 7 year contract as he'll be starting to decline before Calgary is a playoff team.
Calgary is not going to get out of its hole by signing UFA's. That's likely just digging a bigger hole.
They'll need to build up its core from the floor up through the draft and current prospects.
Once that is established, they can presumably supplement through UFA.
|
I can see CGY picking up one of: Marchessault, Kane, Arvidsson, Tarasenko, or Duclair on a 1 year contract, if any of them aren't signed several days into free agency.
If the Flames plan to address the center position with a stop gap then I could see Duchene, or Henrique joining them.
On D, Pesce, Tanev, Martinez, and Brodie strike me as the ultimate value pickups on a shorter contract. I'd look into one of DeMelo or Roy on a longer contract, but I don't see them coming here.

Sounds like a straight up trade for Huberdeau is a match

Would Calgary be interested in a new and approved Johnny, who has scored 27 points in his last 28 games? He is currently on pace for 61 points for the season.
Hubby is on a 70 point pace since the calendar turned. He is currently on pace for 52 points for the season.
I expect Hubby is a better all around player.
Hubby makes more for 1 extra year.
Each has a NMC.
I expect each is a particularly bad fit in the other’s city. They each would need to play with some premium offensive players.

Except you have to convince Mrs Gaudreau of that, good luck. I really don't see JG going anywhere for that reason.

He has told the Jets that he wants to stay. Until it's done, it isn't. But that's what he has communicated to them at this point, apparently.
