When UCP voters don't end up getting the top-notch care they expect when they inevitably need to go get medical care, and get mad and confused and surprised about the state of Alberta's health care system, that egg is 100% on their face and nobody else's.
You're assuming that the average UCP voter has enough self-awareness to realize that...

Yeah my wife and I were going through the latest and greatest version of the social studies curiculum over the weekend. I am so glad my youngest kid is just barely old enough to miss this. In addition to the issues mentioned in the article there is still zero thought put into what is age appropriate or having the right baseline knowledge first, e.g. 7 year old kids who barely know their school has a principal overseeing the students learning about how different levels of government interact and relate or the significance of bills passed in England 400 years ago. Also still a lot of US focus.
Yep definitely some odd inclusions in the new curriculum. However, reading through it what it reminds me of was the curriculum when I was in school in the 90s. For some curriculum that might matter less. For social studies that is....a problem.

Well my mom's 75 year old friend was singing the praises of the Alberta government for the new dental care plan; I really do question how much of any awareness they have.

But their stockpiles of hydroxychloroquine should keep them healthy for years!

Did you blow her mind and tell her to thank Trudeau instead?
Did you blow her mind and tell her to thank Trudeau instead?
I told her to thank Jagmeet and the topic of conversation very quickly switched

You know what would improve healthcare in this province? Getting rid of those annoying minimum care regulations.
Quote:
New provincial continuing-care regulations set to come into effect on April 1 will result in there being no legal requirement to provide nursing care for residents living in Alberta continuing care facilities, United Nurses of Alberta warns.
The Continuing Care Act passed in May 2022 and not yet proclaimed into law eliminated language from previous legislation that identified a minimum number of hours of nursing care that had to be provided to patients in continuing care, UNA President Heather Smith explained.
You would think they would have had some studies to look into this and make rational, expert guided decisions. Oh, wait, they did?
Quote:
A report by the MNP consulting firm commissioned by the Alberta Government in 2021 recommended increasing the number of hours of care people received every day, Smith said. “But the new regulations do exactly the opposite,” UNA's President warned.
“We are moving to zero hours of care. This is extremely dangerous.”
Well, we don't want to listen to them, we should probably look into what a government report says...
Quote:
The report of Alberta’s Auditor General in February 2023 recommended implementing a system “to mitigate the risk that a facility is not providing residents with the number and type of care staff needed to ensure safe, quality resident care.”
Now, Smith said, the government appears to be trying to permit larger numbers of workers without health care qualifications, or only very limited and targeted training, to work in continuing care.
Ah, there it is! Ok, now, #### all of them and lets do the opposite. Boy, it's a good thing we knew she didn't trust experts BEFORE the election, or this whole Alberta thing could have gone off the rails.

Continuing care patients will get as many as hours of care as they spend taking care of themselves. Not taking care of themselves is the whole reason they need help, so in a new bill, the UCP will mandate that for every hour a patient runs, they gain an hour of medical aid. This can be used for nursing aids, dental or even an Uber to get your medication and own fast food.
Watching the Junos last night and Tegan and Sara received the humanitarian award for their organization, The Tegan and Sara Foundation. With this foundation they support 2SLGBTQ+ people.
They gave a great speech and it was great that they specifically called out the Alberta government for the way they attack the 2SLGBTQ+ community, especially the youth.

In another move no one asked for, the UCP is changing the way provincial organizations such as school boards and Health Services, hold and sell land/buildings,etc, giving direct control to the province when divesting of these assets. With the partition of AHS expect more grift to the UCP donors, less accountability, and attempts to kill the paper trail on where/who public assets get sold to.
