Scary stuff last night!
The fire in Tuscany was just at the end of our street and I am positive I saw the actual lightening strike that caused the fire. We were sitting out on our front porch watching the show......nature is very humbling sometimes
We then went down and watched the firefighters put it out - took them quite awhile as it was in the attic and it seemed to be hard to get at. They did a good job preventing the fire from spreading to the neighbors' houses.
We also saw the poor lady who's house it was, wrapped in a blanket, clearly devastated
Oilfan - there was only the 1 house fire and it was not on your street. Not sure where the flooding is as i am in the tanglewood area of tuscany (NW end) and there isn't any flooding over here.
on the positive side. The road i live on is sloped, and all the rocks the street sweepers left behind last week are now gone.
Speaking of all those little rocks, I wonder how much a role they played in all the flooding. I know that the sewer that was backed up in Deerfoot Meadows had a ton of gravel blocking it just last week. Perhaps if they city had have had all the street cleared of the WINTER gravel things wouldnt have been so bad yesterday.

What's annoying is that the city has this habit of sandbagging storm drains in construction areas now so that dirt and debris dont clog the drain. It's fantastic plan - deliberately clog the drain so as not to accidentally clog it. The corners of most intersections in Kingsland are little lakes now becuase of this.
I have to work down by Marlborough Mall today and I love in Edgemont. I was planning on taking John Laurie/McKnight down to Deerfoot and then hopping on 16th - have things cleared up down there or is this a bad idea? If so, any other suggestions as to how to get to 36th St. by Marlborough Mall?
we had a decent amount of rain at our house last night, but I would say it was nowhere near the amount of rain we had in single days in June of 05 or 06

seems like quite variable across the city
I live in Edgemont up in the NW and my parents said they literally got next to no rain last night. Meanwhile, I could have jumped off a diving board into the water down by Marlborough Mall and not had to worry about hitting my head on the pavement.

It's fine down here (I'm a couple blocks away from Marlborough Mall).
Take 16th to 36th St.
Normally that would be at best the 3rd best route, but with construction it is probably one of the few ways.

It's not a sand bag, they are ECM's or Erosion Control Measures. Part of the cities environmental control policy deals with erosion and sediment control into our storm drains. Sedimentary filled run-off (particularily a problem in construction area's) is a big problem in our storm water system as it results in a cloudy discharge at all of the storm outlets and destroys fish habitat. These ECM's slowly allow water to pass through them while collecting the sediment. They are pretty useless in flood conditions but work quite well under normal conditions.
Took me over 2 hours to get to work today- a trip that takes 20 min in clear weather and off-peak times. It was because of the 14th fly-over ramp to glenmore westbound being down to one lane. Wow.
In Evergreen the lights flickered a bit, our internet stayed on, our Bell Dish was good, phone lines were great... so nothing here, although we have a few screws laying on our roof and we have no idea where they came from...
