Joe Colebourne was a decent player but lacked any intensity. That said I hope he is ok after all those concussions.

This is the worst Trade and Rumours thread we've ever had.
I vote when the playoffs end, we start a new one.

Scoring Winger
|
So I know the general consensus from Fan960 guys and others is that you need to keep guys like Coleman around for the re-tool because he's a winner, good vet, etc. But after he puts up 30 goals this season and we likely trade away Markstrom, do we think he could be open to a trade? I believe he's got 3 more years at $4.9M after this season.
Mangiapane and Kuzmenko could also be moved this summer, though I believe we'll get maximum value for Kuzmenko at next year's deadline after he gets a full season of top-6 minutes with the Flames. Mangiapane I would like to move this summer if possible to open a roster spot and give us some options for Free Agency and/or Coronato, Pelletier, etc. taking their full time spot.
I'm a big fan of Coleman but he's playing his best hockey right now and IMO his value will likely never be higher. It's a pretty large salary to add to any teams payroll but with the cap going up I'm sure there would be interested teams, no? Other than the return we would be hoping to get, it also opens another spot for a winger in the top-9 and we're overflowing with wingers at the moment, and we'll have Honzek on the AHL roster next season also.
Mangiapane has an 8-team no trade list ($5.8M for 1 season, then UFA)
Coleman has a 10-team no trade list ($4.9M for 3 seasons, then UFA)
Kuzmenko has a 12-team no trade list ($5.5M for 1 season, then UFA)
Hoping at least one of these guys is moved in the summer to keep the re-tool rolling. Mangiapane is the 5th highest paid player on the team right now behind only Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar, and Markstrom, so he's kind of the logical choice IMO to give us some more cap flexibility.

Just signed a new contract and is closing in on the top pick from his draft year in games played! (ok, that's Yakupov so not really impressive)

I think when you look at Coleman, Backlund, and Kadri it becomes more about what they want to do. They're good veterans, and this isn't what they signed up from. If they don't want to be here for it, then they shouldn't be.
As Kadri said, good organizations get everyone to align on what the direction is.

Linus Ullmark is worth a 1st+ ? Man that + is doing a ton of heavy lifting in that sentence, in no way will Ullmark only get a 1st round pick plus some sweeteners. Bare minimum 2x 1sts and some very good prospects.
To put it in this trolls perspective he had said Toffoli is worth a first this year. So a trade of Toffoli+ some throw ins should be able to land you the best goalie on the planet last year.

Would the Flames use their cap to take on Erik Karlsson's contract?

2012 has to be one of the worst drafts in the last 20 years. Some good players in there. A couple great ones, but for the most part… ooof.

Unless he was lied to or gaslit, Backlund signed up for this.

The last goalie to recieve 2 1sts in a trade was in 1995 Curtis Joseph.
1 year of Linus Ullmark will not fetch 2 1st+good prospects.
Once again, the PEAK of goalie trade values over the last decade+ has been Cory Schneider, a 26 year old top 5 goalie with cheap term. He received 9th overall. And that is it.
Even the most homer of bruins fans don't even think they'll get that for Ullmark.
Dominick Hasek traded, after winning his 6th vezina in 8 years didn't even return that much.

If the Flames move Mangiapane it is because they want to see the young guys in a top 9 role. Nobody has pushed him out. But the Flames move him if they are committed to a young team next year and they want to see those young guys in certain roles. I have no issue with it but a guy like Pelletier has not actually made Mangiapane expendable but the Flames might want to get a better read on what they have with that asset. Assuming no new players coming in from trades or UFA signings, a Mangiapane less team next year looks something like this for me.
Huberdeau Yegor Kuzmenko
Zary Kadri Pospisil
Pelletier Backlund Coleman
Hunt Rooney Coronato
If they keep Mangiapane they end up moving Pelletier down to the 4th line. But I am not sure they get a good sense of what they have with Coronato or Pelletier if they are on the 4th line. Not that my opinion means sweet #### all but more and more I am coming around to the idea of moving Mangiapane and hopefully moving Kuzmenko after you pump up his stats just so you can see what you have with Pelletier and Coronato in places they can actually succeed.
Suspect they sign Pelletier to a short term contract this offseason but I hope if Conroy and company end up thinking they have something with Pelletier, Zary, Pospisil, Coronato and even Yegor over the next 6-12 months they sign the guys they think they have something with longterm with no NTC’s or NMC’s
