It’s like I’m learning how to type. I’m squinting at the correct spelling, and typing one letter at a time…

How many times have I told you guys, you can't play hockey with a Z in your name?
So what does Conroy do? Goes out and signs a guy with TWO of them!
(I betcha Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz doesn't know a hockey stick from Hitler's moustache. Seven Z's!)

I'm pretty sure Brzustewicz was the name of the family in Norm Macdonald's moth joke

You are greatly under rating Gary Suter. According to Hockey Reference, his closest comparable are Doughty and Neidemayer. Moran will be lucky to sniff what Gary Suter was. Brzus certainly has a higher ceiling than the other two.

Suter may have been a better all around D-man than MacInnis. He was certainly a better skater and hitter, and his shot was almost as hard. He’s close to a HOF level Dman and would have made it but for injuries and his heart condition. And maybe some bitterness in some places over his hits on Gretzky and Kariya.

Hockey news in the very recent rankings, has him 4th on the Flames, behind Coronato, Wolf and Honzek.
FWIW.

Suter a 2 to 4 Dman. LOL.
Me might be your #2 if Macinnis is your number one. He's a #4 on an all star team. A really, really good all star team

Not under-rating Suter at all. I'm making a comparison of a young player against the established player. That means the established player is the bar the young player is being measured against. That's who I think Morin reminds me of. That's heaping praise on Morin. We'll see on Morin and Brzustewicz as these are just initial impressions. I like to wait and see what a player does in the pro ranks before getting giddy about any player. Let's see if a player's skills translate to the pros. Many times big point producers come crashing down to earth in the pros because a player in junior is not the sum of their parts. I believe we'll see a great evening of the playing field in the pros and Morin will turn more heads and Brzustewicz may not see the same level of success on the scoresheet. The next jump is the most important.

You misread or misinterpreted the comparison. The comparison was to the established player for style then the range of where the prospect is expected to shake out. Morin reminds me of Gary Suter in style and I expect that Morin would play in that #2-4 range if he achieves his potential.

Let's all just pause for a moment to acknowledge Gary Suter winning the Calder over Wendel Clark, which all of Leaf nation was demanding. Money, baby.

Really looking forward to watching Brzustewicz develop. Kid is killing it this year and if he can translate his game to the NHL the Flames will be laughing when they look back at the deal to get him.

Only when that is done should they go to the UFA market and even then make sure that term does not mess with your ability to sign the young guys longterm.

Totally agree with you. There's certainly an element of risk to locking players in so early in their careers, but in my opinion, the reality of the current situation is that if a player has options due to their situation that they've earned (i.e. being a sought-after player due to their level of play), they will tend to leave when they have control. Maybe it's the arena, maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the lack of success of late of the Flames, but until something changes, the Flames need to mitigate the impact of players leaving the first moment they can by drawing out that timeline. If things don't change with respect to Calgary's image around the league to players, continue to lock deserving players in early, after their ELC, for 8 years, so you don't see them leaving to another team (likely in the US) after you've invested time and money in developing them.

I don't care about being hardass in negotiations. But if you are going to nickle and dime your elite young guys then you have to spend the money you save on guys who are better than James Neal and/or Troy Brouwer

Is it sad that I am already looking forward to the Penticton Young Stars tournament in September? Flames might be able to field 2 teams with all picks and kids in the pipeline.

You indicated Suter was a 2-4 dman.
He was a #1 and only injuries kept him out of the HOF.

That's quite fair, actually.
Your original phrasing was open to that misinterpretation. I made the same mistake until you posted this bit of explanation.
