Huh, left wing eco terrorists against EV's.

https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-attack-berlin

Leftwing extremists have claimed responsibility for a dawn arson attack on an electricity pylon at the Tesla car factory in Berlin, which bosses said would halt production until the end of the week.

In a 2,500-word letter released on Tuesday, the Vulkan (volcano) activist group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the factory, which produces about 500,000 electric cars a year, consumed both natural resources and labour and was neither ecological or sustainable.

I like the look of the exterior a lot (headlights excluded). Also seems pretty small - another plus

I wonder how much less it would cost if they just got rid of the autonomous driving hardware. Just because these cars have electric drivetrains doesn’t mean they need to be equipped to the teeth with cameras and sensors for a feature that isn’t really necessary for fulfilling the goal of electrifying personal vehicles. It just hurts adoption from lower / middle income earners.

I just took a look at what Rivian has, and it doesn't seem to be much different than any modern mid range vehicle. The hardware is probably not adding a lot of cost(cameras and ultrasonic sensors are cheap), and they are mostly safety features. EV's are still expensive because of the batteries.

19 Kw/h smart batteries piloted in Nova Scotia homes. 3 days supply when a storm hits. additionally, Utility company tops it up or draws on it as required

I always wondered if this is a long-term solution to the variability of supply with renewables. It could solve a lot of problems if every house had smart integrated batteries. The biggest obstacles right now appear to be cost and management of the batteries.

I basically view it like the difference between having a desktop with a USB vs going with a docked laptop which is more immune to blackouts and brownouts due to the battery in the laptop.

I wonder if part of it is due to certain areas being harder to access or are considered more remote if a natural disaster hits. The batteries are an upfront cost with ongoing costs, but it could help alleviate other costs for other significant power situations.

It'd also be kinda cool to be able to run a home on battery power for a few days if they needed to upgrade/replace some power in the area.

Probably sell as well as the Mustang EVs, which is not very well at all.

Those new Rivians look sweet. Still holding strong with a 2005 Prius but the R2 and R3 might just make the shortlist whenever it dies.

Yeah, I don't think muscle car enthusiasts and EV enthusiasts or on the same venn diagram.

Although, the Mustang Mach E is pretty much a crossover and is anything but a Mustang. This at least looks like a Charger, and are hyping the overall performance

For muscle car purists, the electric Charger Daytona also comes with an external sound system that mimics the “exhaust” noise of Dodge’s high-end internal combustion engine Hellcat models.
Yeah, if there's one thing sports car and muscle car purists love, it's fake engine noise.

Yeah.. external noise so your car doesn't sneak up on unsuspecting old ladies and bump into them in the parking lot is fine.

Fake engine or exhaust noise to make it sound like a muscle car? Feels like the dumbest thing ever.

Does it come with sound options for the “tuner” crowd, like backfiring on downshifts?

not sure if a Fata...

"she accidentally put the car in reverse instead of drive — a mistake she'd made before, apparently." (apparently not uncommon?)

The result of cost cutting and removing features and controls and sticking them on a ####ing touch screen. Yay profits, I guess.

What are people paying a month to charge their electric vehicles? I have a friend looking to get a F150 Lightning extended range. Curious what the savings would be compared to a gas truck.
