I always find it amusing when fans can have a definite evaluation of a player's character from what they can see from row 23, or their couch, without ever having me the guy.
Huberdeau has entered the zone where the bar for him is set so low, almost everything is a positive.

I have no clue how great he is for the environment around the team but I would certainly hope he is a better leader than a young Johnny Gaudreau.
That is an insanely low bar.

Would you rather have Gaudreau or Huberdeau at 8x$10.5? Neither is a very appealing choice. I find Gaudreau more entertaining to watch so I probably lean that way and I think his effort level gets underrated by many around here whereas Huberdeau's is overrated.

You are thinking about the old Gaudreau...the old Huberdeau was pretty amazing too when he was setting all time assists records

Johnny only makes 9.75 mill and has one fewer year remaining on the deal.
So I would prefer Johnny, but for that reason only.

He really had a positive impact on BJs PP.

31st place in PP % this season.

Yes Huberdeau has been better lately but the bar kept getting lower.

When was the last time after a game it was patently obvious that Huberdeau put the team on his back and willed them to a win as leaders do?

It's fair to say re the last two games (very important games) that Huberdeau took the weekend off.

I guess there were several games where Johnny didn't do much but he was rarely invisible.
Have you watched Gaudreau since going to Columbus? Huberdeau might not live up to his contract, ok he won't live up to his contract, but the guy cares and you can tell he is giving an effort every night. Gaudreau is going through the motions, he is too talented to not get some points but he is like any other worker that goes to his day job, puts in his time, and really just wants to hurry home to his family. when Gaudreau was here he played most nights with fire and passion in his game, that is totally gone now.

I agree with you. But with that said, at least Johnny gave us his best. Jonathan Huberdeau on the other hand, he's basically done nothing. Potentially hurt the team in the long run. If he had wokred out, maybe we wouldn't be rebuilding right now.

I would take Gaudreau over Huberdeau any day and it's not close.

I call BS that Huberdeau is giving it is all every night, intentionally or unintentionally.
You can clearly tell when he turns it up occasionally.

Agreed He came to Calgary and the pressure was too much. Has never been the same as his Florida days.

double whammy of pressure/expectations and shattering of confidence for essentially getting fired by Bill Zito.

Florida had him on the second line, if J Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk were still here, He would have been an excellent option on the second line. What the Flames need is a elite player on the top line, and Huberdeau on the second line, and build the team from there.

I think the guy simply never wanted to be here, but when Treliving drove that dump truck full of money up to his house he started having second thoughts. So he took the giant bag and checked out.

I'm sure he would go right back to being a star if he ever made his way back to a warm weather team, where hockey is less popular than Nascar and high school football.

Gaudreau might not have checked out this badly if he'd stayed in Calgary. I guess we'll never know

this is irrelevant to the conversation about being lucky that Gaudreau turned down the Flames offer though. If he was here he would be making 10.5x8.

You are watching Gaudreau now? That seems odd given your disdain for players that leave the club.

As I said neither player is an appealing choice currently but I would probably still take Gaudreau. If I had to guess, Huberdeau would be much more productive in Columbus than he is here. And Gaudreau would likely be better here, although that may depend on the coach.

The hypothetical was Johnny at 10.5.

oh god, I dislike two dbags that bailed on the team...sue me

anyway so many of you are missing the whole debate...we are lucky that Gaudreau didn't sing the 10.5x8 was my original point

Huberdeau (although the slightly better player IMO) is irrelevant
