Your interpretation of the word 'simple' is incorrect. I can't help you with your interpretation, if that is how you want to take it and be triggered by it, that's your choice. The intention is what matters - in this case the word 'simple' describes an accusation over a conviction, and in that context it can correctly be described as a simple accusation. In any case, the semantics don't matter - it's been stated several times that no one here is diminishing the difficulty for a victim to come forward with a rape accusation - that should be enough for you. That's not what you want though.

Not really sure if it isn't legally binding. Although, his boxcar stats don't look like he will make it a conversation anyways.

If Edmonton had any draft picks left, they'd gladly trade us for him.

Yeah, is it just a 1 year suspended sentence because he was a minor? I don't know the Finnish system, but that seems light. And not legally binding? That seems weird.

I've seen no facts. Is it possible this was a technical lack of consent because the victim was underage (say 15 to his 17) and they lack Romeo and Juliet laws? So he was technically guilty but they went easy because of that?

I wonder if by “not final”/“not legally binding” they mean that the sentence is up for appeal…which is standard here too.

With the team allowing him to return and with what seems like an odd sentence for "rape", this is a strong possibility.
A quick search suggests that the age for sexual consent is 16 years old in Finland.
If this is turns out to be the case, I'll put down the pitchfork and not feel that drafting him was a mistake.

I don’t know innocent people dont get sentenced
Whether you forgive and give him a second chance is a different debate
But drafting him was a colossal mistake in many ways. I doubt that they will sign him. He is just not a good hockey player.

No exoneration and enough evidence to give a sentence (as odd as that sentence might be).
Hey Topi...
