So full draft capital sits at:
Round 1 - Calgary, Vancouver
Round 2 - Calgary, Dallas
Round 3 - Calgary
Round 4 - Calgary, NJ
Round 5 - Nothing
Round 6 - Calgary
Round 7 - Nothing

I'm curious to see how many draft picks the Flames will end up having in 2026. The Flames already have 10 (including 6 in the first three rounds). And they very well may sell more players before then. We better start looking at these 16 year olds more than we ever have before. Their hockey playing, that is.

Does anyone know if the Flames can just sign a guy like Trent Swick (teammate of Brzustewicz), or would they have to wait for him to go through another draft?
I remember the Flames signed Turner Elson when he was 19. Swick would be 20 going into this year's draft.

Outside of Celebrini or Lindstrom, you take him over anybody else. He's better than the much lauded Michkov.

Tankathon's aggregate prospect rankings updated today now have Tij Iginla at #13 with the Flames currently drafting at #14.
If you're rooting for a higher pick, the Pens and Flyers losing today didn't help. St. Louis winning would help, but they are currently down 1-0.

A little early to put that claim in no?, Demidov now 18 looks great against other juniors but so far hasn't shown anything against men in the KHL. Michkov played and scored in the KHL at 16 and he's Sochi's best player this year having just turned 19.

I feel like the Flames are going to draft a stud dman, which is perfectly fine by me. Suspect they pick between 8-10 at the end of the day and the BPA around there will almost certainly be dmen.

Wouldn't be the worst, and I hope they take BPA, but we really need centers.
We did a pretty good job boosting up our D prospect pool with these trades.

It will be interesting what Conroy does over the summer with Markstrom and Anderson. Two players I think he could get decent hauls for. A team like Ottawa desperately needs a RHS dman and desperately wants to compete soon and has a number of good young assets/picks. If the right player for the Flames was available at Ottawa’s pick I wonder if the Sens would do Anderson + Van 1st for Pinto and Ottawa’s 24 1st. Nobody that Ottawa picks with that pick would help them next year and they are already super deep at center (if the right center was available at that pick).

You can sign a player who has gone undrafted in as little as one draft if you want.

Really? Why didn’t the Flames just sign Hunter Smith rather then Waste a second rounder on him?
Or did they try but were unsuccessful? (If that’s the case, why even bother drafting him?).

None of those guys are likely to be top pairing guys
Team needs a blue chip d prospect. And this draft is an excellent chance to get that

Because it is a pretty specific provision in the CBA. Basically
1. you have to get him to come to your training camp
2. you have to sign him before releasing him from training camp
It is a pretty narrow window, an ELC is a 3 year commitment to the player, the player will count towards reserve list and 50 contract limit.
Teams aren't even sure if they will sign late round picks. So to use this provision, you need a high degree of confidence there is a NHLer there.

Why did you go with "Bingo Jr.?"
You should have gone with "Yahtzee!"

Plus, they can't play in the AHL until they're 20, right? Or does that only apply to drafted players?
