Anyway, it's done now.
Now let's hope we get WC2 or bottom 10 position while we losing games 1-2 OR 2-3 score.

Did they also grab time machine to get Allen of three years ago? Right now Vladar is cheaper, wins more and has upside.
And I don't see anywhere the condition is 40 games and playoffs. Looks like just 40 games.

It doesn't bother me that Markstrom wasn't traded. There is always the offseason to sort it out. Honestly, I never thought it was likely so I never got my hopes up. Plus, the prices teams were paying leading up to the deadline weren't exactly great.

I mean, the Kahkonen/Vanecek swap makes a ton of sense for them if they want to try for Markstrom again in the summer. To me, it's the Allen deal that is the real headscratcher here.

Very much doubt the Flames are getting a mid-round 1st rd pick for a 34 (to be 35) yr. old Markstrom this summer or anytime going forward, let alone another asset with significant offensive upside.
Just doesn't appear the Flames are committed to creating a contender and look to be again content being middle of the pack and brining in the odd first round playoff income for ownership.
|
The asset they want is a young top 6 center . There is no chance holtz could ever bring that back in a season or 2. Wingers won’t get you centres in trade.

I think Fitz is flat out not banking on Schmidt nor Daws at this point. He is pretty damn blunt in his press conference that he's going big game hunting this Summer, so they'll roll a new #1 with Allen as their new #2 for 2024/2025.

I'm kind of glad we didn't trade Markstrom in season, it makes the last 20 or so games worth watching.
Flames are gonna finish in the mushy middle regardless. Might as well cheer for some wins hoping they can get into the playoffs.

But there’s always risk. To me that’s the real problem here. Fans only want perfect moves that are easy and obvious wins for the flames, involve an overpay from our trade partner and are perfect in hindsight.
It’s just not that easy. What is easy to do is criticize Conroy for not doing what we want (get a huge return for Marky). Ultimately Conroy will make the right move some times and the wrong move other times. To be a good GM he needs to make more good moves than bad but the margins are razor thin.

6K has been absolutely fantastic why would they be buying a goalie? If they're moving a goalie NJD should be all over him.

His comments seem to indicate it will not be Mercer moved.
I would be shocked if a deal with Jersey gets done if we don't come off Mercer. Fitzgerald sounds like a baby, and made dumb moves to get 2 backups.
