NJ's got their Vezina calibre goalie now, so no need to upgrade any longer lol.
If anything, we might be taking on Allen's contract when he sucks for the Devils, and Fitz comes crawling back to Conroy.

Getting anything for Allen is a good trade for the Habs.
Saying they bested the Flames makes no sense though, that's my point.

Retaining Markstrom and playing him next season will likely mean the Flames lose their 11th-15th overall pick in 2025, and instead get to enjoy Florida's 28th-32nd.
Flames need to secure a bottom-10 pick next year.
!@#$ing Treliving.

As of last time I looked the Flames are picking 11th in 2024, playing Markstrom heavily. That's with Tanev, Hanifin in front of him (and Zadorov). What makes you think they don't drop? Pachal was a nice find and maybe Miromanov works out to some degree, but it's a much worse D corps, plus they are going to have generally younger forwards as well.
Markstrom played well last night and still had 3 goals against - 2 at least due to poor D coverage.

Now they’ll have two goalies to dump and I highly doubt they’ll blink in the offseason to pay up for Markstrom with less time on his contract. Sounds like the goalies don’t matter analytic guys won in New Jersey.

Condition on the pick is that Allen has to play 40 games to upgrade the 3rd to a 2nd.

Goalies are such voodoo.
Allen looks cooked but watch him pull a rabbit out of his hat and go back to being STL Blue Jake Allen for a couple months and run Jersey into the playoffs.

What’s the upside of keeping him into next season though? To be slightly better than they would be without him.

We 100% can not end that convo. This move actually means nothing to that unless Allen wins their confidence in the next month and half.

So essentially - they are better off trade wise if Allen is the back-up goalie.

Lmao! Why even bother getting Allen? He’s at best equal to your current goaltenders and more likely worse. I don’t get this one at all. Trying to rub it in Conroy’s face or something? I cannot understand this one at all.

That'll be awesome if Flames actually make the playoffs, gets past the first round and NJD is sitting out of the playoff spot with Jake Allen wondering What-if. Fitz should be fired - he had all of November through all of January to bolster his team and end up firing Ruff and getting Allen. What a joke!

The condition on the trade actually highlights NJs mindset on this, and how it relates to people saying Marky is off the table.
They realize this is a plan B hail Mary. The condition is basically, we'll pay you a 2nd if he becomes our long term solution, if he ends up being just our throw spaghetti on the wall attempt to make the playoffs this year, we'll pay you a 3rd for that.
NJ has hedged the price on this move, knowing they may need to dip back into the goalie market later to solve their problem.

They need a backup, they’ll have one to dump. Allen will be the backup…
This hasn’t put anything to rest.

I just don't get it. They were already selling by getting rid of one of their better forwards for draft picks. There is no point on making a minor upgrade on goaltending at this point. It's not like Allen being available right now was too good to be true and they had to jump on it.
I'd be so confused if I was a Devils fan.
