I've been trying to find their previous release on the net and it appears to be sold out everywhere.

Pretty good tune. Not as happy as his White Light album, which is good.
Is that Holly Mcnarland on backup vocals?
edit: nm, it's Nadia Johnson.
White Light had a couple good songs but something was off for me with that release. Songwriting just didn't seem to be there. Hope the new one is better. The single is a good start.

I think some emotion was missing.
I think his songwriting is best when he's pissed off about something. I read before White Light came out that he had recently gotten married, and had a much more positive outlook on life. I know I sound like a prick when I say this but his music may have suffered because of it. He didn't seem to have a lot to say, and the album showed that. Whether it had anything to do with his personal life or not, I'm not sure.
But his marriage finished (on very bad terms) and he became a lot more cynical and angry in the posts on his website (much like his songwriting was when his career was at its best). Maybe that'll show through in the music as well. I don't know.
I just heard today on X92.9 that the new Silverchair release Young Modern will go on sale in North America on July 24th or something like that.
One thing, though: I already have the CD, and I bought it at HMV. So I really don't know. I was in HMV over a month ago and I asked for it, the guy went back and said he only found one, but it had no plastic wrapping on it. He sold it to me anyway. Now I know why it wasn't sealed. I guess the moral of the story is "Yay for me!"
Awesome album, by the way. Along the lines of Diorama; maybe not quite as many great songs, but there still are plenty, and they are fantastic.

It's pretty amazing how much that band has grown up over 10 years. I personally think Daniel is a hell of a songwriter... but I miss the angry Nirvana ripoff Silverchair of the late 90's.
Should be an interesting listen at worst though...

Either way, I like the sound of the new single.
His best albums:
1. The Audio of Being
2. Loser Anthems
3. Avalanche
4. Beautiful Midnight
5. Underdogs
6. Last of the Ghetto Astronauts
7. White Light Rock and Roll Review
WLRRR is my least favorite of his albums - it has a few decent tracks but it really does lack the emotion of his previous work. If you're interested, here's another new song off his album:

same thing found it at HMV, wish I shared the same opinion about the album I was hoping after the long break they'd bring back some of that edge that made them really special and basically got another "Diorama".
Here's one for me and Lanny! Maybe a few others are interested too...in any case,
Queensryche performed Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II in sequence at the Moore Theater in Seattle and recorded it for a live album and DVD set. They are releasing it July 3rd.
Full production not just a straight concert. Should be interesting especially since OMCII exceeded my expectations by a fair margin.
THE SAGA IS COMPLETE…
QUEENSRΫCHE PERFORM MINDCRIME AT THE MOORE
Double CD and Double DVD Featuring the
Full Theatrical Performance of Operation: Mindcrime I and II
Are Both Available From Rhino July 3rd
LOS ANGELES — Queensrÿche brought the group’s acclaimed Operation: mindcrime albums to the stage last year performing the original and its 2006 sequel in their entirety during the group’s successful North American tour. The marathon shows included a full theatrical production complete with surround sound, video imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage with the band. Rhino captures Queensrÿche’s epic performance in front of the quintet’s hometown crowd at the Moore Theater in Seattle with MINDCRIME AT THE MOORE. The double CD ($24.98) and double DVD ($29.99) versions will both be available June 26 at all physical retail outlets and www.rhino.com. The album will also be available at all digital retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $14.99. An iTunes exclusive version featuring a video of “The Chase” with Ronnie James Dio will be available for $15.99.
The CD includes singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate along with guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield performing all 32 mindcrime tracks plus a two-song encore featuring their signature hits—“Jet City Woman” and “Walk In The Shadows.” The DVD features the same performance expanded with bonus material including a tour documentary, a featurette on the band’s “Rock & Ride Across America” charity motorcycle ride for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and a live performance of “The Chase” from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, featuring Ronnie James Dio’s only public appearance as Dr. X.
“This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of Operation: mindcrime is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience.”
Queensrÿche released Operation: mindcrime in 1988. Praised by critics and certified platinum, the album was an acclaimed success remaining on Billboard’s Top 200 for more than a year. In 2006 the band released a long-awaited sequel to their magnum opus to critical and commercial success. The album debuted at #14 on the Top 200, their highest debut in over a decade.
The concept albums follow an intriguing and complex plot that revolves around Dr. X, a political puppet master who brainwashes Nikki—the story’s main character—to assassinate corrupt public figures. The story also includes Nikki’s lover, Sister Mary. A former teenage prostitute who becomes a nun, Sister Mary is murdered mysteriously, leaving the cliffhanger “Who Killed Sister Mary?” Set 20 years after the original, Operation: mindcrime II explores Nikki’s fate after being released from prison and reveals the identity of Mary’s killer. The album centers on revenge and what it does to people, their emotions and the choices they make.

Has anyone heard the Chris Cornell solo album yet? Any good?
BTW: I already posted it somewhere here a few days back, but if anyone hasn't had the chance to listen to the Maroon 5 album, it's a definite hit. Really good from start to finish with some really solid production.
Just finished listening to the new Beastie Boys CD "The Mix-Up," and would recommend it. With a big phat Ro stamp of approval.
It's all instrumental, in the vein of "The In Sound From Way Out," and while it meanders through a bunch of different genres, including soul/breaks, electro, punk, and hip hop, it sounds unmistakably Beastie.
One of a number of really good recent hip hop LPs, including:
Talib Kweli - Eardrum
Blue Scholars - Bayani
Marco Polo - Port Authority
Royce Da 5-9 - The Bar Exam
Also, Common and Kanye are leaking singles from their upcoming albums, and everything I've heard so far is fire. The second track on the new Kanye mixtape, "Stronger," samples the Daft Puck track "Better, Faster, Stronger" (or whatever it's called) and is bananas.

Has it already leaked? Crap, I have to find it now.
from their new album Paradise Lost. they play a faster, heavier form of prog metal, sort of like Dream Theater meets Dragonforce. new album is absolutely awesome, probably their best stuff yet
Today's pick-ups (I'll give my impressions later):
Tegan & Sara - The Con
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
The National - Boxer
Prince - Planet Earth
Interpol - Our Love To Admire
White Stripes - Icky Thump
Battles - Mirrored
Looking for: Menomena, Field Music, Ween (Friends EP), Immaculate Machine
may i highly suggest the smashing pumpkins new album zeitgeist. i got it and it's really good, i never really listened to them before this album but its great.
