Bill Wirtz and Eugene Melnyk come to mind. But those are names you absolutely don't want you owner to be included with, and unfortunately we have a long way to go before Murray Edwards kicks the bucket, like those two franchises had to wait out for.

The issue is Mercer. If/when Jersey puts Mercer on the table, they'll come to an agreement. Whether it includes a 1st , 2nd, 3rd or whatever, is details.

I think Toffoli will return a 2nd, similar to Wennberg and Mantha.

Then I think they try to packages a conditional 2nd (that becomes a 1st if they make the playoffs) + Mercer for Markstrom.

So a kid buried down the line up on an already talented forward group is what's going to hold the Devils back from contending for the next 2.5 seasons?

That seems more idiotic to me than making that trade.

What should be NJ's priority right now? Not developing. They've been doing that for a decade.

If they don't want to push their team into a contention window that's fine with us. We'll keep rolling with our elite goalie.

2025 VGK 1st to NJD for Toffoli.

2025 VGK 1st + Mercer to CGY for Markstrom.
