No, the message is my boss said no last time and what are you willing to trade for one less playoff run of Markstrom. Calgary might have a bigger market but New Jersey has more options.

But Markstrom controls where he goes with his NMC. So even if Conroy gets a better deal elsewhere, Markstrom can refuse to waive his clause.

This whole notion of “just get in” and not that Craig believes in it because I think he wants to trade Markstrom but he was blocked because ownership feels the revenue could still seep in.
Typical flames move, and we all hope it’s wrong but I honestly can’t disagree with Dreger here as there’s just too much smoke in the notion Maloney and Edward’s kaiboshed it at the 11th hour.
|
Well it really wouldn't be Maloney's fault in this, he is just the mouthpiece for ownership. If it is true Edwards is meddling we are in trouble unless we get lucky and he sells the team to another local buyer. Now everything I have ever heard is that Conroy has full power to make any moves he wants so this seems to contradict that. I don't know what the true story is here.

We're 8 points out of a WC spot and we've just dealt another top defenseman. If the higher-ups still think this team has a chance to "get in", then we're truly effed.

I have it from a couple sources that a local buyer entering the picture now that the arena deal is in motion is not out of the question. No specific timelines but now I'm hoping even more so that what I had heard comes to fruition. Murray wanted his arena deal and he got it

If its true they may some of the dumbest people, and should be out of jobs as soon as the season is over.

Fitz doesn't know that though. Yes, he knows the player has a NMC but he can't know where the player is willing to go, he can't talk to him or his agent about it. Conroy can tell him Markstrom is open to moving to any contending team, even if he isn't.

That's the point I don't get. Why would you keep Markstrom for a chance to get in while trading Hanifin? If you were trying to just get in, wouldn't you keep Hanifin too?

What I am saying is there will be other teams so the Flames have the leverage when negotiating with NJ.

I guess they didn't want a situation where he would walk for nothing at the end of the season. From an asset management standpoint, I get it.

Catching up but if Dreger is now saying the same as Seravalli and validating the rumor, that's really bad. Just need to look around the league for meddling owners and see that the results are catastrophic. Makes the GMs job way harder.

Only if Markstrom is willing to go to those markets.
It will be Hanifin 2.0, Markstrom will decide where he wants to go and we will have a limited market to leverage against each other.

People who believe ownership thinks we can still get in are the same people who think that the Flames won't retain on any of the trades. It's absolutely asinine to take any 'insider' rumours about ownership at this point as none of them have been correct.

Yet there are still a handful of posters that adamantly claim there is no interference. Not sure who to believe. Only thing we all know is that it has been rumored many many times over the years.

Sure, As per the video with Dreger,
Markstrom at the end of the season, could say I will only waive for 1 team
(i.e. zero control)
I believe this is what occurred with Iginla

But he's signed for 2 years. The flames can say no we're not moving you to your 1 team, and you can backup Wolf

Why "insider" in quotations? Do you think Dreger is not an insider?

Sure, however that's never going to occur.
