Flames would have to waive him to get him playing time with the Wranglers, correct? He's listed on their NHL roster right now.
So I'd expect him in the lineup pretty soon. And Oesterle sent down.

People are made that the Flames wouldn't spend $4M on the throwaway contract of Ryan Johansen to "upgrade" from 2nd+Grushnikov to a 1st.
But then it's the end of the world to maybe spend an extra $250K on this dman on top of what the salary you can bury in the minors without penalty.

Seems like a high character, high IQ guy which seems to be the trend with recent trade and waiver pickups.

It just looks like an act of desperation.
Say you asked for a 26 year old depth defenceman (and pending UFA) in return for arguably the best pending UFA defencemen on the trade deadline block, then immediately sign him to a two year extension, then tell everyone how much you really wanted this guy, etc.
Could have probably had him for a 7th. But sure, we'll go along.

Thing is you don't have a clue if this is true or not

Actually we do because Friedman has already said many teams were interested so if a 7th was all it took then he would have been traded a long time ago.
I think people who had no clue he even existed before yesterday shouldn't talk about his perceived value.
One of the best, if not the best insider has reported many teams were disappointed they couldn't get him. That says a lot.

Yeah well the usual suspects are convinced that insider is a Flames homer (despite decades of evidence that suggests otherwise) and is doing it all for Flames PR lol

After all, how can you trust a man who abbreviates Calgary "CAL"?
I ask you.

Haha!! Yeah, we've all been hoodwinked. They actually didn't really want this guy, but they're signing him for two years in order to trick the fan base into thinking he's better than he is and so we all think the trade was better than it was. This is what you think the management strategy is and you want us to go along with THAT???

So what do you think a 26 year old pending UFA who has only seen 29 NHL games in his entire career and has spent an extended period on LTIR is worth?

Probably Noah Hanifin if you throw in a 1st and a 3rd. But that’s just a guess.

He's probably not worth a ton in a trade...but doesn't mean it's desperation or that he might not be a good player.
He's an intriguing and very talented player that the team likes and is placing a very small bet on.
Most likely he turns into nothing, but he does have an interesting skill set.
He wasn't the center piece of the trade, he probably was closer to a throw in, but throw in doesn't always mean he's a bad player.

If Conroy said tomorrow that Oesterle is our best defenceman and Friedman backed up that statement with "yup, I hear a lot of GMs agree", you just ignore your lying eyes?
Part of a GMs job is selling what he is doing, even if it isn't all that great. To pretend otherwise is foolhardy.

You sure seem to be a master of GMing.
Can you please let us know how you would have dealt with a player on an expiring contract who was very vocal about only wanting to land on a handful of teams south of the border? Short of pointing a gun at another team's GM and demanding a better haul, how would you have managed to get a better haul in what was, and has clearly been for a while, a soft market for said player?

LOL. It's like you just want to delude yourself into believing whatever your told by the hockey media and never form any opinions of your own. A much sadder existence all around.

What do your eyes tell you about Miromanov then? I'm interested in your firsthand experience watching him play.
Yes, a GM should be selling what he's doing. I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing your premise that signing him to a two-year extension is nothing but a smokescreen. That's just nonsense and to pretend otherwise is foolhardy.
