The Star article on the potential for Nenshi to enter the NDP Leadership race:
https://www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...767823ca3.html
Quote from Stephen Carter:
Quote:
Nenshi is an individual star and by being an individual star I don’t take anything away from that skill set,” says Carter. “But caucuses need team leadership and team leadership is about passing the puck sometimes and Nenshi doesn’t know how to pass the puck. He’s not a team player.

What the NDP need, truly, is a superstar to haul them across the finish line kicking and screaming.
I still think he's the right guy.
At the end of the day Nenshi is smug, arrogant and a bit of an ass. But he makes information and evidence-based decisions.
Thats really all I ask for. I can tolerate smug, arrogant and snarky...hell, I often even admire it. If its for the right thing.

Not in those exact words but essentially yes, and it was very well received by the audience. One guy even yelled out why not drop the rate to zero if low corporate taxes are such a good thing.
There was also a lady who at the end of the question time got on the microphone and said even though she wasn’t a member of the LGBTQ community she still didn’t know how these MLAs could sleep at night after playing politics with a demographic with one of the highest suicide rates and putting them at an even greater risk. When the MLAs tried to defend their policy it didn’t go over very well.

When has Nenshi not been a team player?

It gets tiresome watching Sidney Crosby enter the zone with the puck successfully. Why not let Lars Eller and Rickard Rakell have a crack at it too?

Exactly. And frankly, some people, not naming names like Danielle Smith, need a snarky, sarcastic and serious smack in the face.
And while Nenshi could be an arrogant prick, I've tended to find that he's an arrogant prick that tends to be right.
That works for me.

In a funny way, the sort of tall poppy syndrome does seem to be on brand for the NDP...

Lining up, waiting on the trickle down
Something's up, taking time to get around
Belly up, all the drinks are on the crown
It's just a matter of a trickle down

The UCP supporters seem really anxious to tell me that Nenshi leading the NDP would be a big mistake. That's reason enough for me to support him if he decides to run.

Apparently some of those in the NDP are stupid enough/greedy enough to run with that narrative too. Got this email tonight and am feeling like these idiots love looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I got the same email. It offended me enough that I actually replied. Nenshi entering the campaign is something every damn member of the ANDP should be PRAYING for. His chance of beating the UCP is exponentially better than anyone else's.

I was wondering when some of the long time NDP faithful and especially the further left would start commenting about Nenshi. I especially curious what they will have to say if Nenshi does get into the race by special exception because of the party membership rule.
This is why I wish we had a new center/moderate party in Alberta. Start fresh and pull all the good people from the UCP and NDP. Leave the far right and far left to serve the fringe minorities.

Eh felt bad publishing it publicly. Suffice to say I'm unhappy with how they handled this
