In a world with Markstrom without retention and Hanifin extended I wonder if the Devils would want to move on from Meier...they also seem to want to extend Toffoli but are worried about the cap.
They have a full year of play now and it just doesn't seem to be a fit. 47 points, -25 in 81 games including playoffs.
But for the Flames do they take the risk that they can get a guy that was pretty much a PPG player in their division who is only 27 at a potential discount vs what it cost a year ago.

Hanifin (50% retention for remainder of this season + an extension)
Markstrom (no retention)
It's would be a lot of risk for the Flames to take on that contract. But the team was just willing to give long term deals at $8M+ to Hanifin or Lindholm that they didn't accept...so I don't think they are scared of it.
