Nah, who am I kidding? If I were by myself I'd be glued to 960.

Maybe I’m missing something, but what is this standard baseline you’re referring to? I’ve never heard of that.

It completely removes even strength production, time on ice, scoring chance generation, defensive play, possession metrics, etc out of the equation. Seems like a way over simplified approach to evaluate a player and their contract.

Gotta think the Flames may put in a claim for JAD, especially if someone gets moved. They were in on him in the summer and it was almost a done deal before the kings came back with a bigger offer.

Dater saying the Avs may be hunting for a goalie. IMO,They have the room for an Ullmark.

They should just take Markstrom and stop with "stop gaps" like Georgiav and whoever they tape to the posts.

Markstrom and Colorado would be insane, just run and gun all day long and let Marky be Marky

or let them grab Ullmark and then Fitz can panic. Might remove the risk of value going down this summer if one of the available starters comes off the market

I think in a current cap world it's probably closer to 1.2M per 10 points, which would be about $5.6M contract for his current production pace.

And with Mangiapane the production is weighted to 5v5 too which makes it tricky to determine because his counting stats aren't inflated by the PP at all.

For all the talk of him being "inconsistent" he's actually been very consistent in how he produces at 5v5 over the last three seasons:

21/22: 37 5v5 points: t-68th in the NHL

22/23: 35 5v5 points: t-81st in the NHL

23/24: 26 5v5 point: t-81st in the NHL

So he's consistently around a top 80 point producter at 5v5 among forwards in the NHL, which has him comfortably as a top 6 forward (there are 192 top 6 forward positions in the NHL).

If you look at the entire 3 year sample...

21-24:
98 5v5 points - T-73rd
132 Total Points - T-110th

In terms of salary right now Mangiapane ranks T-92nd in the NHL among forwards.

So he's right in line of where you'd expect him to be paid for his production, with his lack of PP production / opportunity kind of keeping his total counting stats down.

So not massively overpaid, but not a bargain either. And I would bet his PP usage would be a big part of his frustration...I don't recall him ever getting an extended look on PP1 the last couple years...where guys like Toffoli, Zary, Sharangovich, Kuzmenko have been able to join the team and get instant or extended looks on PP1.
