I dont want to trade him to Florida or Tampa or Boston just because thats where he wants to go. If they dont have the assets to make it worth our while then too damned bad for all involved.
I DGAF if they trade Hanifin to Admiral Vladivostok as long as the Flames get some real assets out of it. Maybe a battlecruiser we can park on the Bow or a supply of fresh fish.

But "this crap" is literally just fans talking in circles with speculation and fan fiction about sticking it to Hanafin by not taking the best offer, which has nothing to do with the Flames actual intentions.
Conroy will absolutely trade Hanifin for the best return, wherever that may be.

Everyone's just working themselves into a tizzy because they're reading endless, mostly baseless speculation and discussion on CP and attributing this stuff to what's actually going on. When the reality is a GM is out there just going about his business, talking to mutiple teams and letting it get close to the deadline before accepting the best deal.

Hoping things stay the same and it's a Florida-Tampa first round matchup.

It’s bordering insanity.

Is there not an assumtion that the team that knows they aren't a preffered destination is likely offering a worse deal? Therefore a preferred destination is likely also offering the best package?

Do the Panthers have any picks left now?

So guessing it will be 2025 2nd, and a later pick. Probably similar return to Mantha.
Them adding a winger is a bit interesting since their top 9 has been really good:
Verstaghe - Barkov - Reinhart (no chance you're breaking this up)
Cousins - Bennett - Tkachuk (most annoying line in the league)
Luostarinen - Lundell - Rodriguez
Of those top 9 I could see Tarasenko potentially making Luostarinen expendable.
|
I'm wondering if this is signaling another trade. Like maybe Lundell+ for Hanifin? Or maybe this is just a leaked portion of a three-team deal that sees Tarasenko land here and Hanifin land in FLA?
Edit: Not saying we want Tarasenko. I'm saying we could exchange Hanifin's cap hit for Tarasenko's in addition to getting some other goodies.

I like how the first few responses are kinda giving Scorp a hard time about starting this thread...3 minutes later, the trade is confirmed lol.
I'm not very familiar with Scorp's background so I may be incorrect, but isn't he at least loosely involved in sports media? We should probably give him the benefit of the doubt a little more than the average poster here.

Not many assets out.
Still think it's interesting because it mixes up the Florida top 9 which has really good balance, but I guess Nick Cousins being a second line winger probably isn't ideal even if he's a great shift disturber with Bennett and Tkachuk.

They can include him in the Hanifin deal. He plays C as well.

Wow 41 points in 57 games and he brings back a 3rd rounder. Just rock bottom prices this year... unfortunate year for the flames to be sellers and makes the Tofolli, Zadorov and Tanev deals look a bit better in retrospect.

Other teams may value Hanifin more, even as a rental, or value less what they have to give up to get him. Likewise, Conroy may subjectively value what a rental destination is offering over what a re-signing destination is offering.

Tarasenko had a full NMC so he got to choose where to go. Great trade for Florida. A 3rd and a 4th for him is great value. Florida should be the favorite to come out of the East. Adding another forward I think was at the top of their list and they got a goal scorer.

His remaining salary is ~1.1 million, so the ~500k in salary retention was also virtually free.

Not really a reflection of the market when a player has a full NTC. He controls exactly where he goes.
Bill Zito has the cushiest job in the league. He has players literally falling into his lap.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe they want to drop Verhaeghe back down with Bennett/Tkachuk, Tarasenko with Barky and Reinhart?
Still opens the door to someone in the bottom 6 falling out. There has to be an incoming Dman (from somewgere) I would think.

Didn't say Frank Seravalli say that Tarasenko considers Ottawa home and wanted to stay there?
