I like that this also get's the inevitable "sign the cheap veteran depth D" part of the offseason out of the way early since he has another year after this one.

Pachal was a good pickup. Hopefully this guy works out as well.

Seems like the flames are going to have a lot of cap space this summer along with draft picks. Hopefully they utilize both effectively as well as the upcoming trades to remake the roster on the fly.

We’ve dumped, or are dumping a lot of dman and center $$. Maybe a goalie too. Fill the gaps Conman.

Why worry about re-making the roster on the fly?
Bottom out next year.

Poor guy. Every few weeks he cashes a $71,000 cheque.

(925k @ 13 pay periods per season)

All those people on the internet typing about how he sucks while they watch him play NHL games.

Poor guy.

Well we've had "The Best D on Paper" and honestly that's done nothing for us.

Time to see if the opposite works.

Must be nice to make 925k and not have to pay taxes.

Still, two of his cheques after tax would be my yearly gross salary. :|

Great claim. Hanley is a solid bottom-pairing guy by all accounts. Lots of youth coming in, but it is always nice to pair a rookie with a vet who knows what he is doing already. Really helps develop young guys. Much better than trying to trade for someone or try and sign one in the off-season. Gets a warm body in right away, gets accustomed to the team, and will be a in good spot when the season opens to help a guy like Grushnikov, Solovyov, Kuznetsov or Poirier out right off the bat.

And maybe Grush has a good friendship with him from development camp! Who knows! But I’m sure it won’t hurt having a familiar face to chat with

This reminds me of going into the 2009-2010 season with Regehr, Bouwmeester and Phaneuf. I thought half our starting D would play for Canada in the Olympics.

None of them did.

And we sucked and missed the playoffs.

Because I don’t want to watch that garbage and this roster won’t be that bad.

and of course there was a future Norris winner in that group- just not one of those 3. and in true Flames fashion Bouwmeester played for TC at the Olympics at 22 and 30 but not at age 26 as a Flame

Wasn’t it also filled out by Gio like you mentioned, Sarich and who was the decent number 5 because Gio was considered the 6?
